Going to leave this unrated, as it would be unfair when so quiet.

It is in the Good Beer Guide. I missed my train by a minute (bus held in traffic) and fired up the app to see if there was somewhere I could idle away 50mins for the next southbound one.

This is 0.2miles from the station, if you can get the staff to let you through the ticket barriers to take advantage of getting under the railway line. They provide a ticket at one end, which you hand in at the other.

A short walk to this community pub, surrounded by high rises. The wall nearest the main road doesnt have windows, so unsure if this was open, but onto the side road and in to a small, L-Shaped room.

The only people here were either working behind the bar or in some way helping run the place.

Still had 6 hand pulls on. How they get the turnover, I cannot say, but my Beeston Brewery Worth the Wait was perfect.

Decor is junk-shop esque, with all manner of nick nacks on the shelves. Nice drone shot photo from the air above a contempi organ.

The Olde Vic has an L-shaped bar on the left wall that supports six handpumps, three of which were unused during a recent Tuesday evening visit. I’d not heard of the three available ales, but I enjoyed the Portobello Westway Pale. On the rear wall is a fireplace and banquette seating is found in the rear and the front right. On the shelf at the back of the seating and around the walls is a load of old nick-nacks, in fact there is a lot of old bits and bobs everywhere, even the background music was from a bygone era. I didn’t find the service to be very friendly and I found it difficult to get comfortable, even though it was very quiet. This isn’t somewhere I’ll be rushing back to.

— (April 2022) back up to 6 real ales, and again a very friendly welcome from the eccentric bunch of characters at the bar. A total classic pub.

— (September 2021) exceptionally friendly, this was my favourite pub of the day in Stockport for its obvious character and community spirit. Very impressive display of pump clips and countless other knick-knacks for decor. i couldn’t see more than 3 hand pumps and the TV screen agreed with me. The two ales I tried were spot on though - Chadkirk Matueka and Cotswold Rakau. Probably not the best idea to save this as your last pub before the train, you’ll inevitably get talking to someone and miss it :)

Well all I can say is I know exactly what the last reviewer means as we were exactly the same. This was the last pub for us on a coach trip of pubs in the area ending with 8 bars in Stockport, so my memory was hazy, but it was a great place that welcomed us with a smashing community spirit even to appreciating the singing from a few of our crowd. The last 3 pubs on our trip, Hope Magnet and here have made us want to book accomodation up here to have a weekend and be able to spend more time in these fantastic bars. We enjoyed our Abbeydale Reveller but wanted to try so many more. Will be back.

All I can say is that this is a magnificent pub, I have a very hazy memory about it after a day around Stockport pubs and the football but I recall all sorts of stuff on the walls and ceilings covered in pump clips.I appear to have acquired one. I somehow ended up behind the bar at one point and actually pulled someone a pint. It all started due to a discussion with the landlord about sparklers and great fellow he is he invited me behind the bar to witness for myself. I cannot remember the beers as by now I couldn't note stuff but there were plenty on and in good shape. They were listed on a screen. I may have had a pickled egg.
Loads of fellow Altrincham fans in, apparently last time in town our supporters drank the place dry. There's a garden out the back, I remember that much. There were some stairs, I think that's why my arm hurts.

My last stop last Saturday before getting the train. Had seen something about Ye Olde Vic recently so figured it was worth trying to squeeze a visit in. Glad I did, it is an interesting place, like stepping back in time to another era. There was a bank of hand pumps at the bar and I think most of them were on. I think the landlord must be particularly proud of his "beer board" TV screen as he directed us to it while we were choosing our beers, despite having a clear view of the pumps at the bar right in front of us. I can't help thinking the TV is a bit overkill for a place of this size and as others have said does stand out as the one modern thing in what is otherwise a bit of a time warp.

The real fire is a great feature and we were lucky enough to get a seat next to it. There were a few people in at the time of our visit but it was not what you would call busy. From the cask ales on offer I had the Bramble Stout by Burton Bridge Brewery, which was rather enjoyable! I was a bit pressed for time due to the train (which I ended up missing by about 10 seconds) so only stayed for one, but could easily have had another if time had permitted. Nice friendly pleasant atmosphere, in my opinion, with character.

This is a cracking local's pub on the fringes of the town centre which has a great interior filled with all kinds of interesting bric-a-brac. The bar is on the left hand wall upon entering and opposite is a very pleasant little seating area with some cosy looking benches and chairs. Further back, some great banquette seating supplemented with lots of low stools provides alternative seating around a marvellous old fireplace which was lit on a cold November evening, with a load of Adnams beer towels drying from a rack above. The window sills have some noteworthy old barrels filling them and the ceiling is has pretty much vanished beneath a vast collection of pump clips that sprawl across the whole room. Elsewhere, copper topped tables and etched glass mirrors provide nice traditional flourishes whilst a large TV screen listing all the available beers remained one of the few modern concessions. The whole pub is well stocked with all sorts of odd items, far too numerous to try and list here, but in such plentiful supply that multiple visits would be required to get a feel for the entire collection.
There were five ales available on the bar - Crate Rye, Kelham Island Pale Rider, Mustang V8, Orkney Red McGregor and Ossett Big Red - representing a pretty good cross section of styles. I gave the Red McGregor a try and thought it was in very good shape. A chap sat at the bar, possibly the landlord, engaged our group in a bit of chat but enforced a very strict 'no swearing' policy that was so militant that I found it quite difficult to relax here and was pretty relieved to leave in the end.
I really liked this pub and thought the beer was very nice and that the decor was really interesting and worthy of a longer visit to try and take it all in. I definitely liked the place but felt a bit on edge and were I to return, it would most certainly be nearer the start of any crawl than the end to avoid any potential for a slip of the tongue.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about Ye Olde Vic

Final stop on a busy but very interesting day around Stockport, Heaton Norris and Edgeley; and this one was certainly up there with the best. Although it doesn't look much as you approach, the delightfully cluttered interior has all kinds of bits and pieces scattered around several compact seating spaces. Six handpumps on the counter, with a range of different ale styles available (including a decent, if far from local, Crate Stout). Didn't really have time to do the place justice, but certainly on the list for a return visit.

A bit of a dump inside and out really. Bare plaster, carpet worn down to the quick, damp stains on the ceiling. The assortment of stuff lying around can be viewed either as a quirky charmer or a mess, depending on your view. Positives were the wood fire and the lovely carved wood panelling underneath the bar. Five pumps, with four ales on. My Red MacGregor was pretty pedestrian – though others seemed to like theirs. Maybe I got the one of the last out? Watch out for the no-swearing policy – it is strictly enforced which can make for a slightly uncomfortable visit but again, some people might find that a bonus. Overall, I’m struggling to see why my fellow crawlees raved about the place so much… it felt like drinking in a squat where you’re being observed continually.

I have just viewed the YouTube link with Ste Brannan, the pub landlord, and he says it all, a truly excellent pub. The pub is full of curios and I managed to fine a stethoscope under a chair, on top of what looked like a doctor's bag. After a quick examination to all the Pubs Galore crew, my diagnosis was that they were all in good shape, after a days beering and lasting well. I went for the Kelham Island Pale Rider, which was also in great shape.
