very popular chain McPub, popular with locals and students. Pleasant but generic open plan interior separated by pillars, all feels a bit sterile.. but I have been in worse. Credit for the service, unlike some family dining pubs they had someone taking drinks-only orders so no queuing behind the tedious food and coffee orders. 2 real ales on which were Doom Bar and Landlord - the latter a rather steep £2.30 for a half but at least in good nick.
