Great little pub with a food offering. Dont be foolied by onle 3 handpumps on the bar but check the black board as a number of beers available from the cask from a wide range of breweries at the time of my visit even Black Sheep.
Car park at rear with additional parking over the road nect to the beer garden.
If in the area well worth a visit.

General Staal left this review about The Nelson Head

Externally, the Nelson Head has the appearance of a small Regency building. It is what Soup Dragon would describe as undressed brick. It truly is small. There is a small bar area and a dining room. Across the road is a garden area.

The interior looks like a traditional country pub, the kind your grandfather might have been familiar with. There was nautical ephemera on the wall, as one would expect from a pub called the Nelson Head! I would describe the decor as 'busy' but comfortable. The walls were painted cream.

It had the usual stuff, plus Hardy and Hanson's Mild. Real ales on offer were Woodforde's Wherry and Nelson's Revenge. I tried the Revenge and it was delicious.

The pub also serves food, but I arrived just after 2:30 and the pub had stopped serving food. Mrs Staal and I were also doing a walk and had just been to the beach to see the seals. We had our own sandwiches, so did not partake of the pub's food.

I could quite happily have stayed here and drunk beer all afternoon. It was perfectly comfortable. The landlady seemed a little stern. This, though added to the charm of the place.

I would recommend this place for a pint.
