Revisit 2023:
Reopened after a lengthy period of closure, the general description is much the same, although it does definitely now feel more like a pub that does food than a bistro. A very tidy and smart interior with a friendly welcome and the locals seem pleased to have it back. Three fair ales on in the shape of TT Landlord, Bradfield Farmers Blonde and Rudgate Valkyrie, plus a craft keg or two, and condition excellent. Worth dropping by.
15 Oct 2016 review:
Deceptively large "bistro pub" in quiet village just outside York. Very much geared up towards food, with the majority of tables laid up, but does have a couple of high tables and a few sofas for non-diners. The interior is nicely furnished with lots of wood and beams and a series of interconnecting rooms and areas. Draught beers are the predictable Black Sheep and Landlord, but in very drinkable condition (Cask Marque listed). Food appears to up in the gastro category, without being too pretentious; not sampled but looked (and smelt) good. One for eating or a quick pint if passing, not a session.
