This has been more than well described below. It's much more a railway pub than the King & Castle at the other end of the line. It consists of two areas, the one with the bar and an area behind that includes a door leading to the platform. The pub toilets are the platform ones although they are close. I was here before midday on a Friday and it wasn't that busy. It appeared that just one person was a local rather than being there for the trains.
There are ten hand pumps which had two ciders. The 8 beers consisted of Hobson's Mild, Best & Town Crier, Batham's Best, Robinson's Trooper, Clun Pale Ale, Purple Moose Snowdonia Ale and Kelham Island Kingston. I tried the Clun Pale Ale (£3.20), Town Crier (£3.00) and Kingston (£3.20). The Clun was a bit suspect, possibly due to the hot weather but the other two were excellent.
I wondered how much trade this one gets when the trains aren't running as it is actually right on the edge of the upper town. Nevertheless, it's well worth a visit and coming up by train then returning to the King & Castle is highly recommended but it's probably best to avoid weekends and school holidays.

I was looking forward to coming here, and I was glad I did because this is a cracking place for a pub if you have any affinity for railways. Add to that the ten hand pumps on the bar, with a real cider and nine real ales (though there was a problem with one of the hand pumps, so only eight available). Sadly, the beer I went for, Hobsons Champion Mild 3.2% was rather limp and lifeless. The same thing had happened when I had the same beer in Coalbrookdale the previous day, so either there's a problem with this beer or people in Shropshire are not drinking as much MILD as they should. Anyway, I consoled myself by enjoying the real fire, the quiet of a pub with no background music and looking around at the railway memorabilia, which mostly seemed to consist of name plates from defunct stations and signal boxes, while promising myself a return visit one day, by train from Kidderminster (if time and funds allow).

The Railwaymans Arms is in an old station building on Bridgenorth's train station.
Once inside there is a single L shaped room with the bar on the rear left side, the room is carpeted, the seating in bench seating and small stools.
There was a good choice of real ales on the bar,i had a drink of Bathams Bitter, which went down very well, the other beers noted were Hobsons Mild,Hobsons Bitter,Hobsons Town Crier,Box Steam Piston Broke and Dancing Duck Abduction.
If you like looking at steam trains there seemed to be loads of them around the station platforms that i noticed when going to the toilets.
The pub was packed on our Saturday dinner visit, but we did manage to get a seat.
We both thought this was a very pleasant pub to have a drink in.

No changes here , still a very good pub , my pint of Bewdley Worcestershire Way was spot on and drunk out on the platform watching the steam trains go about their duties .
Well worth a visit .

A truly fascinating pub, that is full of nostalgia, even the view from the high footbridge over the road below on approach is a spectacle. Also when you're visiting the pub, you are allowed to have a look around the station area and platforms. They had eight ales on pump and three ciders on tap on our visit, so we went for the White Knight from Goff's Brewery. The chalkboard behind the bar read 2532 pints of real ale sold last week and 127,518 sold in 2015.

This is a simply fantastic traditional free house which is owned by the Severn Valley Railway Society, there has been a pub in this classic Victorian grade II listed building since the station opened in 1861 and even when the railway station closed between 1963-70 the pub continued to trade. The interior has two very small rooms with high ceilings, If you enter the pub from the station car park you will see the left side public bar with a wood panel counter, tiled bar back and station roof style canopy along the full length of the left wall, along the right wall is a fixed burgundy fabric bench. On the wall in the back right corner is an old telephone and next to this is an opening which leads to the snug on the right of the pub, this has a beautiful moulded fire place in the right wall which is painted black with gold pattern and has a huge Cheshire's of Smethwick brewery mirror above, more burgundy fabric bench seating and red leather short stools, in the back right corner up a couple of steps is a door which leads out on to the station platform. Both rooms have various railway paintings, old 1920s-30s holiday posters, railway station name boards and steam engine number plates on the walls. There are a couple of picnic tables in the car park at the front and there are several station benches on the platform.

Regular ales are currently Bathams Best Bitter, Hobsons Best Bitter, Mild and Town Crier with four changing guest beers one of which is changed for a cider in the summer, these were Olde Swan Bumble Hole, Hadrian Border Northumbrian Ale, Bewdley Bittern (not a typo) and SVR 150 (GBG 2013). I had the Bathams (I can never resist) and the Mild which as usual were both in excellent condition. I can also recommend the locally produced pork pies, they are delicious.

One of my personal favourite pubs, quite simply if I visit Bridgnorth then I go to the Railwayman's which is saying something as there are several better than average real ale pubs in the town. Morning and afternoon it is normally full of visitors to the preserved steam railway but in the evening there are many local regulars as well which I think says a lot about how good the place is. One of the founding members of the SVR who uses the pub often, told me that back in 1965 when the volunteers turned up early one morning to start clearing the run down station of weeds the landlord challenged them as he thought they were vandals who were trespassing! The beer selection and quality is always superb, I love the place so I shall continue to return.

Update - September 2012

Another very enjoyable and impressive visit. Little to add to my previous review below.

8 beers plus 2 ciders on - Bathams Bitter, Hobsons Best, Hobsons 32 Dark Mild, Bewdley SVR 150, Slaters Maravilla Raspberry Beer, Bewdley Bittern, Holdens Golden Glow and Kinver Half Centurion.

Both the Hobsons Best ( £ 2.25p per pint ) and the Kinver Half Centurion ( £ 1.38p per half ) were excellent

The fact that this pub stays open long after the last steam train has left, despite being slightly isolated down in the Low Town speaks volumes. I'm still a big fan of this place.

Original review - Visited September 2009

Delightful watering hole forming part of the station buildings at Bridgnorth Railway Station at the end of the Severn Valley Railway ( which starts at Kidderminster ). The pub is actually owned by the SVR Railway Company.

Inside is decorated with the inevitable railway memorabilia - photos, pictures and old station signs , eg - Troon, Ilfracombe - stations that were, at a guess, axed by the infamous Mr Beeching in the 1960's. Note also the splendid fireplace with a large Cheshire Ales and Stout, Smethwick brewery mirror.

The pub serves a good selection of real ales from local micros - on my recent lunchtime visit these were Pardoe's Bumblehole, Worfield Shropshire Pride, Warwickshire Shakespeare County, All Nations Coalport Dodger Mild, Titanic Stout, Hobsons Best and Bathams Best. Both the Shropshire Pride and Hobsons Best - at £ 2.30p and £ 1.90p respectively were on good form. The pub is a GBG regular.

Tasty locally produced pork pies are also offered, but these had run out on the day of my lunchtime visit.

There's outside seating on the platform where you can watch the steam trains come and go and wallow in the nostalgia.

I really enjoyed the visit. This place is well worth seeking out, irrespective of whether you're here for the train journey.

Step off the train and straight into the station bar. The downside is that everyone else might have the same idea and it's not as big as the King and Castle at the other end of the SVR line. (The light is a bit dim as well which is a pity when the sun is shining).

Cask ales were Titanic Mild, SVR Ruby Anniversary Porter, Batham's Bitter, Hobson's Bitter (I should have gone for the Batham's), Three Tuns 1642 Bitter, Stonehouse Cambrian Gold, Kinver Khyber IPA.

If I arrive in Bridgnorth via steam train I simply can't not go in.
