An 18th Century village pub opposite the church in a fairly affluent setting. There is a fairly untidy garden at the back, and a gravel car park across the road at the front. Inside, there is a main bar and a snug, plus a dining area, all open plan to a degree. There has been some renovation, making it open and airy, and it’s a pleasant place to come and eat and drink, though if you can’t find a table the bar isn’t that comfortable as the stools seem to be the wrong height. Food is mainly from local ingredients, restaurant style, and not particularly cheap. The staff were very pleasant, the other clients seemed to be the older members of the village plus some ladies wot lunch. There was a box of cider on the bar, plus handpumps. I initially asked for an Exmoor Ale, but this had just gone off, so I settled for a Yeovil Stargazer, which was in very good condition. Doombar was also available. It’s not exactly on the beaten track, but it was worth making the effort and I’d happily come back.
