Straightforward no frills suburban GBG-listed Spoons in a converted cinema. The high-ceilinged foyer area as you enter is fairly smart but things fizzle out when you get to the main room. In a corporate departure there are Newport County banners above the bar and horse racing on the telly. Three guest cask, my Kirby Lonsdale was a bit lacklustre (NBSS 2). Not much else to add – it’s a local Spoons for local people, I wouldn’t see the need to leave Newport town centre to revisit. 5.5

Standard Wetherspoond cinema conversion, foyer area with booths before step upto main area. Poor beer choice and service.

I turned up here on a Friday evening so it was busy but not manic and I found a table. It was a haven of serenity and calm compared to the Queens Hotel in town.
As noted below it's a cinema conversion that stretches back a long way to the bar area where there is also a patio.
Although there are twelve hand pumps the beer choice was not that good. The JDW Trio Of Doom and Brain's SA were doubled leaving a cider, One unused, Brain's Bread Of Heaven and Bullmastiff Son Of A Bitch (£2.69). The standard guest ale price here is £2.29 making it one of the more expensive S Wales Spoons and certainly dearer than the two near Newport Rail Station.
I thought it was pretty average.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Godfrey Morgan (JD Wetherspoon)

Housed in a converted cinema, the interior is much larger than the simple art deco façade would suggest. Usual 'spoons furniture and decor in a variety of seating areas. Side patio. Ten of 12 handpumps were on, with a fair selection including Rhymney Export at a very reasonable £1.99.
