Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Rupert Brooke (JD Wetherspoon)

Elongated building, with a strange change in direction part-way along to give a layout shaped a bit like an ice hockey stick. It also has 'main' doors at each end, and I'm sure I've seen a few people walking straight through as a short cut. The longish bar is located towards the Castle Street doors, and the seating area at the far end is raised slightly. Shed-like roof with an industrial ventilation system running along the centre like a spine. Small patio beer garden to one side. Six real ales appeared to be on the two banks of five handpumps on this first revisit for 11 years: Ruddles, Doom Bar and Abbot plus the seasonal Exmoor Exmas and a pair from Grainstore - Rutland Beast (£1.33, half) and Ten Fifty (although that had just run out).

A fairly standard Wethers. Its a long, single, slightly curved room with the bar to your right on entering from Castle St. There is a large air con duct that dominates the length of the ceiling. 10 handpumps on the bar with the 3 nightmares doubled up. The other beers were Grainstore Calcutta, Bombardier and Trying Side Pocket making up a rather poor selection. To the left of the Castle St entrance there is a net covered courtyard.

This Spoons dates back to Summer 2000. it looks like it has been constructed from some old shed but was apparently an indoor market. At least this means it doesn't have a low ceiling so is a bit lighter than some of their outlets.
On my visit the ten hand pumps did not have that good a choice on as Ruddles, Exe Valley Autumn Glory and Grainstore Rutland Beast were all doubled up. This left Abbot and Doom Bore plus two from the previous festival, Long Man Old Man and Shepherd Neame Red Sails. I went for the Old Man (£2.05) which according to the menu was the regular standard guest ale price. This was in excellent condition. I also tried the Rutland Beast, also in good nick but I was charged a staggering £2.89. There is a blackboard on the bar with the guest ales listed but it does not include the price, nor are there any price tags on the pump clips. I also noticed that on the menu the standard guest price was £2.05 but on the discounted Monday Club was £2.15!
I left here with the impression that it's a badly managed Spoons so gets a couple of points deducted.

A large JDW that was once an indoor market. There's a conservatory area to the left as you enter and a raised family area to the rear, that's the end of the interesting features. I first called in here on a Thursday night, there was football showing on a big screen and the place was packed. After a 10 minute wait at the bar I walked out. Visited again on the following Friday lunchtime. Rather better this time although the service was still pretty slow, even though the place wasn't busy. I had a pint of one of the guest beers whose name escapes me and my notes, it was in good condition. Not for the faint hearted at nights, but not bad during the day.

The Rupert Brook is a Spoons house that is situated on a pedestrianised street.
Once inside there was a decent sized single room, the bar ran down the left side from the entrance i used, the seating was the usuall mix of tall and normal tables and chairs, there was a small raised area to the rear.
There were 10 pumps on the bar,but the choice of guest beers was pretty poor,i had a drink of Springhead Outlawed which went down well on my early morning visit, the other beers i noted were Titanic Iceburg,Abbot,Doom Bar and Ruddles best, there was also some of those american type beers on handpump, which i never drink.
I quite liked this Spoons,it seemed very civilised.

One of two JDW’s in the town, this one is the old indoor market building. A modern interior - some exposed brick, curved red ceiling and industrial air con pipes in the long main bar with an elevated section to the rear, leading to a small patio garden. Notably light and airy for a Spoons. Plenty of pumps but quite a few off on my late morning visit. My Exmouth Dark was fair. Ate here and the breakfast was fine. So-so Wetherspoons.

A rather ordinary Spoons in what I believe was once a indoor market hall, basically an open plan single room with a raised area to the rear with plenty of seating throughout. 10 pumps with a fairly ordinary range apart from a couple of collaboration beers,a couple of pumps clipped with the rather annoying "Coming Soon" badge. my choice was 6 point Wheat Street at 5%, which was in fair condition . The pub served its purpose for an early meet up venue for the PUG Rugby crawl and the breakfast was adequate but overall a rather bland establishment and I wouldn't plan to visit for any other reason.

I liked this Spoons as it was bright and airy. The service was fast and pleasant and there were 10 beers on handpump. I went for the Wolf Brewery Tasmanian Wolf, which was top notch.

A Spoons chain pub and eatery housed in what appears to be an old 1950s factory building. There are two entrances and a patio area. The rear entrance is in white and glas frontage, with a large triangular window. The other entrance has a couple of gable frontages - one in white, the other in brick with a crow-stepping. The interior is a long room, elbow shaped, with a higher level toward the back entrance. The decor is brick and white, with some red wood panel and the most interesting feature is the metal air-duct that ran through the place! Service was fine and the clientele was the usual Spoons mix. The food was fine. Beer; usual tap stuff with Abbotts and Ruddles. I failed to note the real ale guests (schoolboy error). A typical Spoons, just a duller interior than most.

This 'spoons looks to have had a bit of a refurb, everything looked spick and span. The outstanding feature is the curved vaulted wooden ceiling with sky lights set in the top .There is a vast black ventilation tube suspended along the full length of the pub like some prehistoric monster, below which is a cavernous interior with a small raised section at the rear by the exit to Gas Street car park. There are two banks of five handpumps but only two of the usual suspects in GK Abbott and Ruddles Bitter with the other handpulls offering a good mix of microbrewery ales and a real (pokey) cider. My Sadlers Hop Bomb 5% at £2.30 was in good nick and an absolute bargain.
I always considered the Lawrence Sherriff to be the better JDW outlet in Rugby but the Rupert Brooke is now pushing very hard just behind.
