This one is apparently named after a West Indies cricketer and the pub sign has been replaced with a cricket themed one. It's a rather dull looking modern building so if it wasn't built as a shop it can't have spent very long in its previous incarnation. It's fairly nondescript inside and not a very large one but at least there are windows on the short front side and the long side opposite where the bar is. There is a raised area at the front tucked behind a bank of fruit machines. Did someone say it isn't that cheap? The food clubs are cheaper than average and the standard guest ale price is £1.95. I have to say that the staff here seemed to be more effective than in some of their outlets. It was quite busy on my Wednesday early afternoon visit with a mix of people in for food and some daytime brigade types.
The ten hand pumps had the JDW Trio Of Doom with the GK beers doubled, two unused and three festival ales. I went for the Mauldon's Blackberry Porter (£1.85 festival price) which was in first class condition.
It's not a great building but it does seem to be a well run Spoons.

It's a Weatherspoons. It therefore serves good & cheap food with a wide selection of beer & wine. It is one of the only good pubs in Ashington town centre.
