Super pub - worthy entry in the 2018 Good Beer Guide. Multi roomed, with large dining area around the back and lounge with real fire at the front.

Beers were Holdens and Bathams. Bathams at £3.25 and in fine condition.

Recommended.

Next door to the church , which is handy as i have relatives in the village so a great pub for pre/post wedding/funeral/christening drinks .

This is one of the few Holden's pubs that is a genuine country pub. Trysull is a small South Staffordshire village and this pub is in the centre of it by the church. Remarkably the village is only about five miles away from busy Wolverhampton. It's not easy to get here by public transport, there is some sort of bus but it is a Mickey Mouse service. I walked the mile and a half or so from the bus stop at the North end of Wombourne and got a cab back to Wombourne which itself has a 15 minute bus service to Wolverhampton.
The canal brigade have things slightly easier as the Staffordshire and Worcestershire Canal passes closer by but I don't know if there any parking places.
I failed to find the public bar mentioned below so ended up in the lounge.
There were five beers on Holden's Black Country Bitter & Golden Glow, Batham's Best, Salopian Shropshire Gold and Hopback Summer Lightning. I'm all for any brewery tied house having guest ales but this is the first time I've seen guests outnumber the tied products. I was hoping to find the Holden's Mild here. Prices varied from £2.60 for the Holden's bitter to £3.00 for the Batham's Best and Summer Lightning. Both the Black Country Bitter and Golden Glow were in excellent nick.
I came here with great expectations but left slightly disappointed. The whole place is strongly food orientated and I found the lounge a bit twee, Not having the mild on didn't help either. I would still recommend it as it is a Holden's tied house, a GBG regular and a very pleasant country pub.

Soup Dragon left this review about Bell Inn

A detached Holden's pub, of late Georgian undressed brick consisting of a three storied 'house and lower level extension, with a modern rear undressed brick extension and patio area.

A great review below, as ever from the Monster. The interior has three areas. A traditional L-shaped lounge in white and beam walls and ceiling, with a nice fireplace and is at the front of the three story building. It is adorned with train and Victorian prints, jugs, plates and ephemera such as an imposing grandfather clock. a small ante-room lies before what is a modern bistro restaurant area at the back, served from the same central serving bar as the lounge. It is in a grey and cranberry so Mrs Soup said (pass the buck on that one) and has the comfy seats, sofas, twigs and some bistro art that you expect, but is tastefully done and there are some Victorian prints juxtaposed. The menu isnt cheap, but we (and the Soupettes) took advantage of a 2 for £8 menu and have done a few times - the food is fine, as is the service. The music is soft and the clientele varied here. There is also the 'Countyman's Bar', which is housed in the original lower story building, but i have never got in there yet!

Beer; taps stuff with a great pint of Holden's MILD and Golden Glow, along with the Bitter and Special. There was also a cracking Bathams Bitter and Three Tuns XXX Bitter.

A top rate place and a must to visit. A regular in the GBG. Go! and go now.

Ale Monster left this review about Bell Inn

A nice three story 18th century red brick building with extensions that is owned by Holden’s Brewery. The main entrance on the right leads into a small traditional lounge which has a small bar counter in the back left corner, a nice inglenook fire place in the left wall, a few comfy seats and various interesting decorations such as a large grandfather clock, a singer sewing machine, a collection of antique plates and old paintings. In the old single story extension on the left of the main building is a small traditional public bar, this has a small bar counter in the back right corner, a brick fire place in the left hand wall by the entrance and a really old juke box in the corner with a flat screen TV above, on the walls were old photos of Wolverhampton town centre. A door at the back of the lounge leads to a second more recent extension which is a large modern restaurant with a small bar facing the back of the building, a piano in the middle of the room and around a dozen large tables set out for dining, at the back of the room are double doors that lead out to a small patio area, there is also a small patio at the front of the pub with a couple of picnic tables.

Regular ales are Holden’s Black Country Bitter, Golden Glow and Bathams Best Bitter with at least one changing guest beer usually from independent breweries in Staffordshire or neighbouring counties. On this occasion it was Hobsons Town Crier and I found all the beers to be well kept (GBG 2011).

This is a great pub which offers both a traditional setting with lots of character for a social drink and a modern restaurant for a decent meal or a special occasion, the food is very good and although the standard menu is a little expensive there is a two for one offer on certain days. This place is perfect for us as I love the traditional pub side and the Mrs likes the nice restaurant, also children are welcome. I will definitely be going back soon.

I agree with all the other recommendations and add that the restaurant is well worth a visit - not cheap - but good food well presented.

July 2007 (Lunchtime)
The Bell is a well known and much loved establishment which successfully blends the traditional pub atmosphere (in the bars) with the large modern rooms catering for wedding receptions et cetera. The food is very well presented and the staff friendly and efficient. Get there early during warm days in the summer as they will be very busy.
