Elihu Yale is an open plan Wetherspoons with a bar along the left wall, high tables down the centre and normal sized table and chairs down the right with a solitary booth thrown in for good measure. There are televisions that were showing muted BBC Wales football. The bar supports two banks of six handpumps that were doubled up. Available on cask were Weetwood’s Cheshire Cat, Little Valley’s Tod’s Blonde, Sharps Doom Bar, Directors, Ruddles and GK Abbot Ale. Standard and premium keg was also available. The prices were very low and I reckon I could get proper loaded in here for less than £20.

Medium sized oblong box with generic Wethers decor. It's pleasant enough inside with a few Wrexham Fc shirts dotted around the walls. 12 handpulls but only 6 beers on as they are doubled up. Close enough to Wrexham General train station for a last pint before your train (or you could go The Turf which is closer).

A classic large town Spoons from the mid 90’s, this one specialises in the ‘fruit machines and despair’ niche. We got the stares on entering and where we sat afforded us a good view of a guy dressed as a wizard on his day off from Hogwarts. It's basically a big hall inside, with some wood panelling, a smattering of alcoves and glass dividers. Four guest ales available, the Oakham Inferno was so-so (NBSS 2), as was the Enfield Pale (NBSS 2). The bar service was friendly though and the Spoons pizza came up to scratch. The good burghers of Wrexham don’t have much choice on the quality pub side of things and I guess most of the discerning ones would get the train up to Chester, only a few minutes away.

Bit grander than the normal Wetherspoons, some nice wood panelling and a raised area with open windows to street. Still one open 'Spoons but ok & good beer

I was surprised to learn that this was once a cinema as it struck me as being a typical old school shop conversion. It's a large square room with a few alcoves and the usual JDW furnishings.
Although the bar has twelve hand pumps the beer selection wasn't that great with the JDW Trio Of Doom doubled up, one Available Soon, a cider and Thwaites Wainwright. This left Daleside Legover, Weetwood Ambush and Erddig Jolly Rambler. I went for the local Erddig Jolly Rambler which seemed to be in good condition but tasted like one of those Boots home brew kits from thirty or more years ago. Overall I found both Wrexham Spoons disappointing.
