Soup Dragon left this review about Shanahans

A once detached Victorian corner pub called the Hen & Chickens, with a few benches outside, which also does B&B. My dad was born on Rocky Lane, which was then a residential and industrial street - this is about the only building left he would have recognised from 1935. The pub has a red brick upper storey, with a brick and stone lower one, with moulded decoration. The interior has several rooms, the first of which is a small triangular shaped bar area. It is in yellow, with green bench seats and lots of photos of locals on the walls. The main lounge is in the middle, with striped wallpaper and a green ceiling. It has a staircase that leads to the rooms and has a few objects on the walls for interest. The back room seems to be a games room, with a pool table, but I could also see a music system and it appears they have discos etc. There are TVs in the rooms, which had the sport on. The music was general and at a decent level. The service was friendly, as were the locals - I had a good chat to one about the history of the area. Beer; no real ale, just the usual keg drinks with a decent enough M&B MILD. A nice locals pub, Irish themed. Nothing for the real ale fan, but pleased I dropped in.
