We really enjoyed our visit here and found this one difficult to fault. We found other customers to be friendly and chatty and a couple of them were local and quite eccentric. The staff were helpful and friendly and there was a choice of ten hand pulled ales. I went for the Cronx Brewery Nektar, which was right up my street, a very good session beer and only costing £2.29 a pint. I believe this Spoons to be a former bakery and there was Church Organ Pipes near the front entrance, paying homage to the Organ restoration shop, up the road.

First visit to this spoons although I live just up Muswell Hill I must say its one of the better type spoons I like. Its not too big so its like a drinking in a warehouse like most and not too small. Tried several Ales on tap all were in good condition as ale fest was on I will not bother naming them but all were good. Staff seem very polite with fast service the major point to me is they know whose waiting which is a good point something that seems lost in these big places.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about Devonshire House (JD Wetherspoon)

Small(ish) for a 'spoons, with a 'L'-shape layout bot no other distinguishing features that I can recall. Two banks of five handpumps, with a reasonable selection including a very good Eclipse Porter (fine value at £1.99).

A small and narrow front bar which opens out into a fairly small area at the back. A very good selection of real ales on for the London Ale Festival.

This is a ‘spoons so you know what you’re going to get in here. But this one had a set of organ pipes by the wall on the right, which is a new one on me. Furnishings are typical of the brand. As you enter, the bar counter’s on the right, with some tall tables/tall stools and some normal tables and chairs on the left, leading back to a large room at the back with loads more tables and chairs crammed in cheek to jowl. Clientele on Saturday afternoon was the usual mix of mums and kids, all day drinkers, and PuG reviewers.

They were doing a roaring trade on Saturday afternoon, while the vastly superior Railway Tavern around the corner was doing a modest trade. Must be something to do with the cheap drinks.

I first came here a year or two back when it was the newest Spoons in London. My recollection of it was that there were too many Fuller's ales on and that it was pricy for a Spoons.

Today I came here as part of the Compass Points festival where they were showing off Redemption beers, I went for the newish Rock the Kazbec (£2.15), which had a haze but tasted OK. It's a blond beer that tend to be prone to haze, but wished I had gone for the familiar Urban Dusk rather than one I hadn't tried. However, £2.15 for a standard guest is at the lowest end of Spoons pricing and as noted below it's a typical Spoons far better than an All Bar One.

To me it's a good place to go in trendy Crouch End (it wasn't trendy when I lived in the area as a student!), and I would be happy to give it another visit.

Prevuiously an All Bar One, the Devonshire was converted to a ‘Spoons in November 2010. It’s very much a seen one, seen ‘em all type of place that isn’t exactly oozing in character and possessing all the usual ‘Spoons familiarities.

The long narrow interior opens up towards the slightly raised rear section but there isn’t really anything that catches the eye aside from a set of organ pipes in the front bar area, the significance of which I was unable to ascertain.

The initial joy of seeing 10 hand pumps without copious “available soon” tags soon waned when I noted that a lot of the pumps were doubled up with the lesser interesting ales.

It serves its purpose as most ‘Spoons do and has tio be an improvement on an All Bar One but there are far more interesting pubs in the area.

There seemed to be more idiots in here than the usual ABO. I saw some tanked up idiot hit a car with his lighter as he attempted to throw it across the road to his mates who were blocking the entrance and making no attempt to let people through.

Best avoided.
