Blue Scrumpy left this review about Haven Arms

The Haven Arms is located down a country lane away from the village of Hedon. As the previous reviewer has stated, it's in a fairly dilapidated state.

First impressions were not good. Cars in the car park appear to have been dumped, whilst very loud dance music was being pumped out of speakers in the bar. A small group of teenagers, possibly not old enough to drink were sat outside.

We walked into the bar to what seemed more like a building site than a pub. There were no handpulls, but we were told that real ales were available in the lounge. We gladly moved away from the mess of a bar to the lounge, but still no real ale was visible. Handpulls have been removed from all rooms now, although Black Sheep & Landlord were listed on the walls. I suspect these were bottles.

At £7+ for a gin and a soft drink, prices here are also extortionate. We'd planned to eat here, but there was only one other couple present when we arrived and we soon decided to avoid it. Another couple arrived for food, having booked a table. They wandered in and looked completely bewildered by the experience.

There appears to be new owners here. But they'll require one hell of a lot of work to get this place anywhere near respectable.

Will Larter left this review about Haven Arms

There is a look about this place that speaks of neglect, or at the very least a lack of care about appearances. The original pub building, dated 1825, looks well enough, though the front door is no longer used and entrance is via a doorway shared with the modern extension to the right. Once into the bar, which has been opened out from what must have been at least two rooms originally, there was an air of shabby neglect, with half of the wooden floor tiles missing and a smell of either solvent or fuel oil heavy on the nose. There were chaotic scenes behind the bar, with someone in the cellar shouting up to the servers about the lack of lager to one of the fonts. My half of hand pulled real ale was served with a distracted demeanour and the beer itself was beyond care. I went outside to drink it, though it wasn't the warmest of late April days, and although I drank the beer, I had to subsequently go to another pub nearby for something else to take away the taste (not sour, just stale and oxidised). This could be a really nice pub in the right hands, but I'm not convinced that the present proprietors know what they are doing.

Excellent and surprising, well-hidden old pub in lovely surroundings - follow map carefully. The rather nice old building houses a lively public bar, with a large extension holding a more comfortable lounge bar and adjacent restaurant. Ales on at time of visit were the fairly predictable Black Sheep, Landlord and Tetleys but in good condition. Also offers some unusual lagers and keg beers and features beer festivals on Bank Holidays. Food good and home-made. Occasional Good Beer Guide listing. Recommended.

"Out on the edge of town in peaceful setting. Almost 200 years old, at the junction of several footpaths. Loads of parking space and no through traffic - delightful. Tables out in front of the pub and a covered patio area at the back. Bar has lots of nooks and crannies with pool, darts and TV. Five well kept cask ales and the usual lagers etc. Restaurant does cabaret at most weekends and food is served from 12 noon to 9pm, every day.Sunday's is a carvery with a choice of 3 roast meats & fresh vegetables. This is a pub for all the family - a real jewel. "
