The Manor Barn was another pub that has recently re-opened. It's an attractive building in a nice area of Rotherham.

We arrived at the side door, awaiting somebody to seat us. The place was fairly quiet, with plenty of spare tables. I'd already spotted a handpull with Weston's Rosie's Pig real cider, the first real cider I'd seen during that day's crawl. There were also a couple of real ales.

We were eventually approached by a barmaid who asked if we'd made a reservation. In my view, it's unfair to make reservations when you cannot accurately estimate your time of arrival. So, I seldom do this, so as not to disadvantage other people. But as it was quiet, we expected her to allow us in. Instead she walked off to the other side of the pub to ask if we were allowed in. We quickly explained that we were only stopping for a swift half.

The lady returned from the other side of the bar having presumably spoken to the landlady/owner. The answer was still no. They were not accepting walk-ins, despite it being almost empty. I doubt very much that the message that we were only planning to stay for a half had been passed on.

I did contemplate calling to make a booking, but thought better of it. A few weeks ago, pubs were making a call for people to support them. Now a minority don't seem interested at all, even when quiet. This is one that will probably fail and the owners will wonder why!

The Manor Barn is a nice looking stone built pub,the main entrance is at the side of the pub.
Once inside there is a L shaped drinking area which had a mix of bench seating and bucket chairs, the room was carpeted and looked quite nice, there was a small seperate dining area to the rear left, this area was square shaped and had bare boards.
There was a TV on showing BBC football scores and there was some decent background music playing.
There was one real ale on the bar, this was Sharps Doom Bar which was a decent drink.
This was a pleasant and comfortble to drink in.
