A respectable small hotel, named after the nearby waterfall and apparently popular with the actors and crew of 'Heartbeat', which was filmed in the area. The main entrance leads into the usual hotel functions, while to one side the Spout Bar is a nicely traditional bar you could have found in most small hotels for the last 50 years or so: restrained decor, matching dark tartan seats, fair amount of dark woodwork and that 'slightly above a pub' feel. Ales on were TT Landlord & Knowle Spring and Theakston's Best and kept in good order. A civilised place for a pint, however note it is for sale at the time of writing so things might change.

Mike Hewitt left this review about Mallyan Spout Hotel

We had friends staying with us in Whitby over the weekend and we decided a walk, with a pint at the end would be a good idea. So we caught the Steam train from Whitby to Goathland and set off along the path to Darnholme, round the back of Goathland to the 70ft Mallyon Spout waterfall and ended up in the Mallyon Spout hotel. The Copper Dragon IPA had just run out but was being replaced by Black Sheep. We each had a pint and sat in the beer garden listening to the gentle breeze rustling through the trees. A very enjoyable hour or so, in a pleasant village pub.
