One room with the bar in the middle. Old Peculiar on hand pump which was OK. Some guys came in who actually go in my local in Wakefield. Amazing!

Well described below. There were 3 beers on when I visited and I went for the Copper Dragon Golden Pippin which was fine. Glad I called in if only for the pub name!!

Old Boots left this review about Middle Earth Tavern

Not as exciting as name suggests it's a one room pub with a stone floor, exposed stone and brick walls. The counter has four pulls with Old Peculier, Copper Dragon Golden Pippin, Doombore and a local from Whitby which sadly was equally as boring as the other beers. A spiral staircase leads to somewhere. It's largely furnished with pews and rectangular tables, and there's a big screen showing music videos.

Modernised local pub, refurbed after bad flooding, lots of brick & light wood and a fantastic feature fire place, a little bit brash but very well done and the beer is excellent. Spiral staircase I tink goes up to a restaurant area that overlooks the river. Light airy pub that is well worth a visit, though refurb works continue.

2 real ales, was actually the 2nd best on my Whitby visit, behind the Station Inn.

General Staal left this review about Middle Earth Tavern

A white rendered building - it could date from any century from 16th onwards. You step down to it from the street, which makes me think it is pretty old. I was worse for the wear when Mrs Staal and I turned up. It was my birthday and the good lady wife was accompanying me on a Whitby crawl. She was sober. I wasn't.

Internally, the room was rectangular in shape with the bar at the right hand 'short' end. They had one pale real ale on, Copper Dragon Golden Pippin. The second tap was labelled up for Copper Dragon Black Gold, one of my favourites, but unfortunately off that night. They had the usual lagers and smoothpours. I also had some of the Theakston's Dark Smooth, which was nice.

The seating is centred on benches around the wall.

I found this pub perfectly acceptible. I could have spent more time here and would definitely add it to my Whitby 'regular' drinks stops. Mrs Staal also liked the pub and she is hard to please!

We have stayed in this pub several times for weekend breaks over the last ten years - in fact we had our honeymoon and my husband's 40th birthday here. Its a great pub, good food and very friendly. There is live entertainment every Friday and Saturday night all year round. "Regulars" are very friendly to the tourists which creates a great atmosphere.
