On my first return visit here for a couple of years, I found it much the same as previously noted and it remains one of my favourite Lanarkshire pubs. A pint of Guinness cost me £3.40 and Tennent's and Heverlee lagers, Blackthorn and Magner's ciders, Caledonia Best and Harviestoun Bitter and Twisted Blond Ale are also on draught. Unfortunately, the real ales have disappeared, at least for now, but this is still a great pub.

This remains one of Lanark’s most popular pubs, perfectly located half way down the High Street. As the real ales were both off, I opted for a pint of Belhaven Best, which cost £3.10. Other draught options were Bitter and Twisted (a bitter), Guinness, Schiehallion, Stella Artois and Blackthorn and Magner’s Golden Promise cider.

Still as cosy and welcoming as ever, the Horse and Jockey doesn’t seem to have changed at all since I was last here. One real ale, Harvieston “Bitter and Twisted,” was on sale, although a second hand pump was not in use. Also on draught were Tennents lager (at £3 a pint), Stella Artois, Tennents Special, Guinness and Magners cider. There are regular live music performances at weekends in what is a generally excellent pub.

If you've been hillwalking on a cold day, this is the ideal place to thaw out with some real ale in front of the real fire. It's always very warm, both literally and metaphorically, and perfectly situated half way down Lanark High Street. Just mind your head on the low stone door lintel when you're going to the toilet.
