Town pub retaining two bar layout with public bar one side and lounge the other, plus an outdoor area at the back. The interior has a fair amount of woodwork with a good traditional feel. Three handpumps offer a changing range of beers judging from the array of pump clips over the bar: at time of visit being 6X, Evan Evans Cwrw and Jemima's Pitchfork from Glamorgan. Pleasant enough.

This is a pub that has been GBG listed for donkeys years and in fact I'm sure I came here on my only other visit to Carmarthen over 35 years ago. It's an old school pub with a choice of two doors as you enter. I opened the right hand one and decided it was too noisy so took the left door.
This was a carpeted room with wood panelling so I assume it was the lounge bar. There were two prominent televisions showing horse racing.
The bar has three hand pumps which had Wadworth's 6X, Sharp's Atlantic and Celt Silures. I thought this was a dull choice for a long-standing GBG pub but it's probably down to being owned by Punch Taverns. I went for the Silures which was in good nick.
If this is CAMRA's top pub in Carmarthen then I won't be returning.
