Visited The Bessemer on a Friday afternoon while in Sheffield for a Friday night football match, found the pub ok, it's more of a bar then pub but a good selection of drinks and the food looked good even though I did'nt eat there. Got talking to a group of local's, friendly enough when I told them I'm a Birmingham City supporter, I imagine this place get's really busy at weekend evenings.

Stonegate's best impression of a Wetherspoons, even down to having the toilets in the basement, but with added TV screens (everywhere), music and a pool table. Also rather more random decor and arty lighting than the average Spoons. Unfortunately the cask ales were off due to line cleaning (and staff shortages) - bad planning but at least they were cleaning them. It should have been Doom Bar and two guests, which looked like brews from Bradfield and Thornbridge judging by the clips. It seems to have special music evenings (soul etc.) and I probably wouldn't want to be in on a Saturday night but it was peaceful enough on a quiet weekday.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Bessemer

Large, city-centre Stonegate pub with various seating / dining areas in a rather odd layout. The ceiling is higher above the bar counter and off to the left where there is enough space for a little mezzanine. However, window space is limited and its all a bit gloomy despite some feature lighting. Anonymous, semi-modern furniture in all parts, with the most interesting feature being a display about the local steelmaking and cutlery industries. Standard menu. With three of the five handpumps in use, serving Doom Bar, Hobgoblin and Abbeydale's Deception (£2.97 with 10% Camra discount).

The Bessemer is a modern pub set under an office block.
Once inside there was one large room with the bar facing, there was a small raised area to the right, the seating was mainly normal tables and chairs.
There were three real ales on the bar,i had a drink of Sheffield Crucible Best which went down well, the other beers were Abbeydale Moonshine and Bombardier.
The pub was very busy on our early Saturday evening visit.
I would be quite happy to return to this pub at a quieter time during the day.

Large Smith & Jones pub that looks like a slightly upmarket JDW. Large main room with a small raised area to the right. A further room to the left has 2 pool tables. There's also an upstairs area which was closed during my visit. The toilets are down 2 flights of stair, also like a JDW. There's a table in the main room with a Christmas Tree and adverts up for Christmas. It's September FFS. Four handpumps on the bar with 3 in use serving Abbeydale Moonshine, Courage Best & Bombardier. The Moonshine was in decent condition. It's a reasonable enough pub, especially if you like JDWalikes but it's going to lose a point for the Christmas Tree.
