A fairly bijou JDW which is a converted pub (2011) so has a bit of inherent charm and isn’t the usual barn. Blue tones and exposed stone walls. Just a couple of guest cask as is sensible given the size of the town and pub, my Elland 1870 was in good shape (NBSS 3.5) and only 99p! Can't argue with that. A decent all-rounder Spoons, would happily call again.

One of the better JDWs I’ve been to recently, and still as described by others, below. The young staff were efficient and pleasant, and the atmosphere was convivial. The usual ‘Spoons characteristics were present – mute gaming machines, feral children and people who, twenty years ago, would have been waiting on giro day, but somehow it was a bit more civilised than many other pubs. Ales on were Adnam’s Extra, Lee’s Vanilla Cream Pale Ale, Bateman’s Spring Breeze, Ruddles and Doombar, and there were no quality issues. Worth including in a crawl.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Bear (JD Wetherspoon)

Former coaching inn, now a 'spoons but retaining its traditional façade. Of course, the interior has been comprehensively remodelled, refurbished and extended, but the overall effect is still definitely a good thing... Two banks of five handpumps, with a fairly modest selection of real ales and a cider, but the 'international brewer' Uiltje Mr Feathers turned out to be an excellent pint.

The Bear is an original pub which closed in 2011 and opened as a Spoons the following year. This looks fairly obviously an original pub from the outside but inside it could be just about any old building. It's a long open plan room with the bar on the right and that narrows down towards the rear. There are tiles around the bar area and wooden floors with a carpet at the back area. They have some strange plastic seats here that look as though they've been taken from a local school.
The bar has ten hand pumps which had one unused, two ciders, the JDW Trio Of Doom, Shepherd Neame Todd the Axeman & Spitfire, Twisted WTF and Brain's SA. I went for Todd the Axeman which was excellent and at the Standard guest ale price of £2.35.
Despite not having done much with the interior this is a reasonable Spoons and GBG 2017 listed.
