Quinno _ left this review about The Talbot Inn

Seeing as I was in town I decided to trudge out to the periphery to see how this one was faring 8 years on. The previous vivid interior has been blandised, with an unappealing battleship grey and white gloop applied alongside the occasional bright light and a load of blue fairy lights strung along the bar like a provincial nightclub. Darts and pool off left, with a piano also spotted. Spitfire wing metal urinals, you don’t see those much now. Three cask on round the side; Pride, Electric Bear and an aged (and probably aspiratored) drop of Exmoor Gold (NBSS 2).

Large recently-refurbished roadside pub, looking attractive made out of local stone. Inside is a fairly tasteful refurb (various farrow and ball shades) in a dog leg shape interior. To left on entering is pool and darts with main bar area as you follow round to the right with a nice light secluded eatery area leading off. Tennis was being shown on the TV. Three ales on and a nice selection in Bath Gem, Exmoor Silver Stallion and Wickwar BOB – the latter two were in good nick. Also Westons cider and perry on pump. Turned out the barmaid was formerly from my parish, so got a bit of friendly conversation and being easy-on-the-eye meant that it passed the time nicely. Still smells new so will take a little time to bed in, but on first impressions this place deserves to do well. Rated 7
