Will Larter left this review about The Allied

Situated in the old village on the hill, among some cobbled streets and vernacular buildings, the former Allied Hotel may be the nearest to grand that Honley gets, with the exception of the church obviously. It makes a very nice pub and was suitably busy when I called in on a late midweek afternoon having caught the bus from Holmfirth. It's a reasonable walk from here to the railway station on the other side of the valley, but I had time for a beer or two. There were four hand pumps on the bar with Timothy Taylor Landlord and Boltmaker, plus Bradfield Farmers Blonde. I went for the Boltmaker, which was yet another NBSS 3.5. Like a lot of pubs, this one has had most internal walls removed and replaced by RSJs, but there's a divider between the main part of the room and the pool room. I rather liked it here, but it was just busy enough to keep me from getting up and wandering around. Maybe another time, though the background music, which seemed to consist solely of heavy metal, might keep me away.
