A detached 1960s building that at least is not a bland box. The pub is in undressed brick with a front facing gable, dormer windows and a bay window, with a view into the bar. There is a beer patio at the rear, which last year had an up-market burger shack - i don't know about now has the place has had a make-over since i last visited.

The insterior has two rooms that form an L-shape around the serving bar and are accessed by the entrance corridor. The decor to both rooms is red and white (evidence of the former green can still be seen where the radiator has been replaced in the lounge). The bar, to the right on entry is quite small, expecially as it was busy with friendly locals, a couple of them engaging me in conversation about Ansells MILD. There is a pool table and dart area and old local photos are on the walls. A small TV had the darts on. As it was busy, i returned to the lounge. This had a larger TV with silent American footy on from some Iceland SKY or something. It looked a little bare, with just a couple of pictures. The music was turned up in this room, so i drank and left. The service was fine and it clearly remains popular.

Beer; usual tap stuff with Banks's MILD. On handpull there was the general Spekky Hen and Pedigree. They used to have an excellent Ansells MILD and the tap is still there - I asked for MILD (i didn't see the Banks's at first)and had to run through to the other room to ask for Ansells, as this is where the barmaid went to get it and i saw it was a Banks's tap (there was one in the lounge), only to be told they no longer do it - so i got an OK Banks's keg MILD. Please, cover over taps/pumps that are not used!

I was looking forward to returning here, but the loss of the Ansells means that whilst i still like the pub and find it friendly, the beer choice for my personal taste is now a little more basic.
