Large Wetherspoon's close to Wolverhampton's railway and bus stations. With my train delayed, I had time to stop here for a quick half late on Monday evening.
The pub was busy. But it is large enough to deal with the crowds. Service was quick and a table was available for me.
The usual Wetherspoon's ales were on - Greene King Abbot, Ruddles Best & Sharp's Doom Bar. Guests were Backyard The Hoard, Oakham Inferno, Burton Bridge Sovereign Gold & Enville White. Ciders were Weston's Old Rosie & Gwynt y Ddraig Black Dragon. Be careful to check all sides of the horseshoe-shaped bar as there may be different beers on the other side to which you are standing. The two ciders were certainly in different fridges on opposite sides of the bar.

Either I caught it on a good day or things have improved since previous reviews, but this came across as a fairly comfortable if unexceptional Spoon's from the 'library' period. The gentle buzz of conversation was noticeably pleasant compared to some of the noisier town pubs. The range of beers was also good, with more than half of the 12 ales on offer being local or unusual types and the sampled Grafton Caramel Stout was in very good condition.

Usual Wetherspoons but still one of the worst I have been in. I have called in here dozens of times over the years but I have never been impressed! Having said that I am sure I will call in many more times. The beer I had (can't recall what it was as it was a busy football day) was fine.

A blueprint Wetherspoons. Everything is in order from the over worked bar staff to the dirty tables to the excellent quality beer.

This place seems to be in a state of permanent decline compared to three or more years ago. I've dropped in a few times to see if there was anything worth stopping for and there hasn't been so I've walked out. Today I had nearly an hour to kill with nothing nearby open so stopped for a pint and a breakfast roll.
The place was a complete shambles, hopelessly short staffed and loads of clips turned. The only beers available from the fifteen hand pumps were the two GK beers, Oakham JHB, Stonehenge Pigswill, Ringwood Mauler and the pathetic Marston's EPA. The days when you could come here and find several Locale beers are now a distant memory. It was only the fact they had some Thistly Cross cider for just £2.29 that saved this visit from being a complete disaster. How it keeps its slot in the GBG is anybody's guess. Score cut again from 6 to a very generous 3.

Having been here a few times since the last review the beer choice hasn't been nearly as good as previously and twice it has been so hopelessly busy I've walked out. Score reduced to 6.
Visits 14th June 2014
There was no local football on this time and I had two visits so I had a better chance to assess the place. It is nothing more than a standard old school Spoons but on my visits today the fifteen pumps included a good selection of Locale beers. These were Kinver Light Railway, Black Ram & Khyber IPA, Dickensian David Hopperfield and Backyard Brewery Blonde, Fiesta & Big Red which was available soon in the morning.
I went for the Kinver Black Ram on the morning visit and the Khyber IPA on the late afternoon visit. Both were outstanding. Both were just £2.20.
On the basis of the ale choice and quality I've upped the rating to 9.
Visit 01st March 2014
This is a Spoons that I have been to a few times in the years soon after it opened. It's very handy for the bus and train stations. I arrived here just before 17:00 on a Saturday keen on taking advantage of the St David's weekend Flaming Dragon curry offer. I was very pleased to find there was no Ruddles available so I was able to have a Titanic Iceberg as a drink which according to the receipt was just £1.00 instead of £2.15.
The CAMRA discount which I discovered after I got back would not have applied here!
The pub itself was heaving so I didn't get to note all the guest ales. It's a typical Spoons, the microwaved curry and trimmings were good for the money and the beer was in good nick. Like the other two Black Country Spoons I visited it seems to be immensely popular, but the staff only seemed to be just about coping.

Nice enough Spoons fairly near the station. Some decent ale to be had.

A fairly familiar looking Wethers both inside and out. The central U-shaped bar does however have 3 banks of handpumps with a decent selection of beers on. Its quite a decent Wethers despite it being a bit generic.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Moon Under Water (JD Wetherspoon)
Dull-looking place from the street, but thankfully the interior is a little bit more inviting (albeit with typical 'could be a converted shop anywhere' Wetherspoons decor and furniture around the 'U'-shaped bar). Main features of interest are the 15 handpumps, about ten of which were in operation this visit, featuring a number of interesting local(ish) beers - including an excellent Irish George stout from Morton Brewery - as well as the usual suspects.

A very handy Spoons this one, especially when on the way back to the train station. Another good pointer was the 12 handpumps serving up some interesting ales. I went for the Woodfordes Bure Gold.

Medium sized JD with a single horseshoe bar.There was a good selection of real ales with the Roosters Cockburn being in top form.Very resonable prices.
