Very nice half timber building ideally situated facing the village green, the pub is owned by Punch Taverns and the interior was refurbished a couple of years ago changing it from a nice traditional two room pub to modern open plan. Through the front door is a long narrow room with a long bar counter straight ahead, to the right is a typical public bar area that has a central double sided fire place with a flat screen TV and various paintings on the walls. On the left of the pub up a single step are three leather sofas gathered around an open fire place, there is a further large room at the back of the building entered from here which has several tables laid out for dining. The pub has a huge beer garden at the back (as if the village green wasn’t enough!)

Regular ales are Banks’s Mild and Green King IPA with a single (occasional) changing guest from Punch Taverns nationwide portfolio. I’ve been in here a few times over the years and one week there is a guest and the next week there isn’t.

Not a bad pub in my opinion, shame the owners felt they had to modernise the interior as the exterior has a superb olde worlde look. When I visited this place recently with my brother on a Saturday afternoon, we were the only people in there, the door was open but there was no one behind the bar! After a couple of minutes a young bar maid appeared looking a little surprised and confused, obviously not used to having customers. It was about half an hour before we saw any other people come in!

A detached pub with beer garden and the village green over the road. The exterior is half brick and half black and white wood look.

The interior is open plan, with a couple of dining areas. The look is now modern, with biege, white and red walls and white painted beams. There is a stone floor and some exposed brickwork. The furniture is the modern sofas and table and chairs, with arty vase pictures now being seen in every other pub. The music was charty and a little loud. Service was functional, clientele younger based.

Beer; tap stuff, with GK IPA, a decent Banks's MILD and an ok Jenning's Cumberland Ale.

Sadly, the interior is now a run of the mill kind of modern place, the exterior is nice - for me, the best way to enjoy this place is to get a pint on a hot day and sit on the green.
