Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Swan

Excellent traditional pub, retaining two separate bars and a good atmosphere despite the fairly plain furniture and football on the numerous sports TV screens. A few benches can also be found out front. However, whilst the decoration inside is largely limited to pump clips, the impressive display is enough for any real ale drinker to take an interest and it becomes obvious why this is a regular Good Beer Guide entry. A pair of handpumps can be found on each counter, and on my visit I found a fine Holden's Golden Glow (£3.20), Wye Valley HPA, The Hoard from Backyard and Oakham's Bavaria Mandarina. Well worth seeking out.

The swan is an excellent pub and is well used by locals. There were 3 beers on and my pint of Scrooge from the Elland brewery was in good shape. Nice to see cobs for sale behind the bar and a pool table. This is the pick of the pubs in the area for me and I would happily return.

I'd been looking forward to trying The Swan ever since it reopened last year and on a visit back home last week I finally made it. Well worth the wait. It was a Thursday afternoon and a mate and I were there for the 4pm opening. Soup Dragon's review tells you what you need to know about the interior. I'll just add that the pool table and dart board are indeed in a side area, but it's really a separate room beyond an archway, still with with bar access. You don't feel at all cut off in there, yet it's independent enough to have its own sporting atmosphere, as it were.

The Sharp's Doom Bar was excellent (on offer at £2.50/pint), as was the Holden's Golden Glow and Satisfaction. The two main rooms each had a plate of black pudding and polony slices on the bar to pick at, which went down a treat. It turned into a mini session, such was the good atmosphere and friendly service, and it was much appreciated that when I finished off with a whisky and asked for a dash of water I was handed a jug, rather than having to shout 'when' at someone wielding a hose-fed gun. A proper pub that deserves to flourish.

I have long wondered what this place is like so yesterday I ventured inside. Only recently re-opened so the decor is fresh and new. The pub itself is a tidy, if slightly small, two roomed local pub where the service and the regulars seemed friendly enough so I felt comfortable. Live TV was showing on flat screen TV's in both rooms. There is a car park to the rear and the bus stops right outside - although it is only a five minute walk from Brownhills High Street. The usual midweek opening time is 4pm although it opens earlier on a Friday (2pm) and at weekends (midday).

I didn't see any kind of food menu although now I've read Soup D's review I do remember seeing the cobs behind the bar. . Besides the usual tap offerings there was a Beowulf Beorma and a Holden's Golden Glow on handpull. Both were nice but the Holden's nearly tempted me into staying for longer than I intended. I would happily visit again.

A new review rather than an update, as this pub has re-opened recently under new ownership and has been completely refurbished.

The pub is a small cottage-styled detached Victorian building with a central entrance flanked by bay windows and has a moulded string course. It is cream rendered with white paintwork and has etched glass windows. There is a rear patio area.

The interior has two rooms, to the left and right of an entrance lobby, both served by a central serving bar. The decor of the rooms is a cream patterned wallpaper, with cream ceiling and a carpet floor, with predominantly blue seating. The more bar room is to the right, though both rooms really are comfortable lounges in many ways. The bar has a brick chimney fireplace and just a couple of prints/mirrors on the walls. There is a TV which had the footy on. The lounge had a private function on, but this room has a side area where there is a pool table and a dart board. A few Laurel & Hardy figurines decorate and there was a TV here too. There was no background music. The service was really friendly (made Mrs Soup a cup of tea - which she has rated on Tea Galore), as were the locals that were in the bar room. They don't do food, just cobs at a £1 a time.

Beer; usual tap stuff with Banks's MILD. There are two handpulls; Holden's Golden Glow and Backyard Hoard, both were very good. It appears that a third pull may be added in the near future.

A really good experience, so much better than my last visit. More than worth popping into and i intend to return. Good luck to you.

JANE TAYLOR left this review about The Swan Inn

Geoff & Jane Taylor, formerly of The Prince of Wales PH (2003-2007) are the new owners of The Swan Inn. We shall be opening mid July 2011. Now a 'true' freehouse we shall be serving a good variety of both draught and cask ales. We shall be looking for dart, pool, cribbage & dominoes teams so come along and see us. We shall also be showing live football matches. No food, just traditional cobs, crisps, scratchings & nuts etc. A PROPER PUB!!! We shall be undertaking improvements to the pub over the next couple of years. Our initial consideration shall be to serve good quality beer in a nice clean pub. See our facebook page for upto date news or email us on theswanbrownhills@hotmail.co.uk

I believe this pub closed again and has now re-opened again, with another refurb! It is an Enterprise Inn.

A small cottage style, detached pub, with white painted brick exterior and green paintwork.

The interior has two rooms. The decor is basically white, with new, or re-covered seats. The room to the left when entering had its lights off, but did contain a dart board. The room to the right had a TV, but it felt a little bare. The old bar itself is a nice wood one, that seems to have been painted over making it look a little tacky. Service was fine, clientele small, mature and drunk.

The beer saw usual tap stuff, with Banks's MILD and a so-so Highgate MILD, with Wells Bombardier and Banks's Bitter on handpull.

A bit of a non-entity really, i cant really see myself going out of my way to visit, but been to worse though!

The Swan Pub is now Under New Management and currently in a phase of ongoing renovation. The pub is open for business and is building up a reputation that it was understood to once have.

The new managers welcome both old customers and new!
