Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about Warren's

Formerly Masons, this remains a bar and (mostly) restaurant, with semi-modern furniture and decor throughout. The former is a relatively small L-shaped area at the front (with a narrow outdoor terrace beside the pavement), whereas the dining areas stretch back some way to the rear. Slightly surprisingly, Old Speckled Hen (£4.20) was available from one of the two handpumps.

Visited on 30 April 2011, dinner for eight invcluding two 12yr olds. Service was a bit hit and miss, ie, ask for something and then find out not available after perusing menu for many minutes, but really that was not a problem as the waitress was happy and apoligised and to be honest just like any black country lass. We all had starters which were brill and tasty and then we waited a while before our main came. To me this was not a problem but to some it may be, especially if you eat quite fast, it enabled conversation and beer drinking..... the mains arrive, excellent. My mom ordered the lamb shank, misttook its description as lamb slices, it was huge. The salmon, very tasty and the kids enjoyed the burgers. Sweets were just as good for those who could fit one in. I was pleasantly, if not, greatly surprised by the whole experience. I grew up down the road in great wyrley and have seen this pub take on many transformations over the years. The reason we visited, I now live in kent, my dads 80th, somewhere close and gave it a try. Well done, will come again when back in Midlands. PS, next time tell me you have Becks on draft and the evening would have been even better. Albeit the service may well have been slow, the retaurant was busy, but to me that smacks of fresh fresh fresh and as far as I am aware it was and tasty too.

Last night was my first visit here in over a decade so I went with an open mind. The front room is the bar area, contemporary and tidy (logs stcked up alongside the fireplace etc) but I wanted to sit down so we ventured into the back room, which is the dining area. The front room was about half full and the back room had one small party who were just coming to the end of their meal so in all it was fairly quiet for a Friday night.

There was just one handpull on, Elland Beyond the Pale. I prefer something darker. I'd go along with Soup's assessment that the Ivy House is a better pub and so, although not a bad place, I wouldn't really make a special effort to go back.

UPDATE

This place closed again and re-opened as 'Masons'. It is a modern decor place, in a milky coffee colour (ok, i am no good on colours). There are arty pictures and half backed comfy chairs and high stools. In short, the decor is not my cup of milky coffee, however, considering the state to which this had fell before re-furbishment, the new owners have given it the kiss of life. It is still a two roomer, but the menu is now more expensive, but plusher. Beerwise, well tap stuff with M&B MILD and Peroni, plus the usual, but there was one real ale handpuull, with a decent Oakhams JHB. The service was fine and i saw a mixed clientele that turned up in numbers, which i would not have seen in a month of Sundays before the work. It now stands in contrast as a differnt style of pub compared to the Ivy House - yes, the Ivy is more me, but this place deserves to attract those that prefer the modern touch. Good luck to them.

A yellow rendered detached pub, with blue paintwork, with beer patio out the front.

The interior has two rooms. The rear room has been completely refurbished recently and is now a dining area, with a new budget kind of menu. The seats have been re-covered and there are a few pictures on the walls. I couldnt see too much as lights were out as they had stopped serving, but the decor was white, perhaps a little clinical. The front room is a bar room. Its quirky in nature, with brick fireplace. A few pictures were about, but looked a little naked. The TV didnt work well. The gaffer was fine but it was totally empty - it is right by the superior Ivy House.

Beer; the usual tap stuff, with Banks's Smooth, which was ok. The Highgate has gone, but GK IPA is now available on handpull.

Sadly, gone down a little in score. Less beer choice, less atmosphere. Ivy is better.
