Bucking Fastard left this review about The Haywaggon

An old fashioned place with a focus on food. There are three sections, with the entrance leading to the main room with a bar at the rear wall and a large fireplace to the left. The bar area is slightly raised on quarry tiles while the bar itself is faced in brick with some wine bottles encased end on.There are four handpumps with only one working on my trip serving Purity Gold,a little cloudy. There are two other smaller rooms to the right, both with bay windows. The decor throughout is seemingly unchanged from the early 70's with Artex finish on the walls all whitewashed. Some original timbers can be spotted.Aside from the bar area, the pub is carpeted throughout and all the tables in the three sections are set for dining .
The chef is from Italy and does a wide variety of dishes from his home nation, together with traditional pub staples and a wide choice of specials featuring fish ,steak and game dishes.Starter around £6,mains vary between £8 and £13 but the quality is much higher than the plastic menus would lead you to believe. His wife is friendly front of house.
More restaurant than pub,I wouldn't hestitate to eat here again and this family run establishment deserves to be busier,it offers very good value.
