Don’t let the prominent corner location and leaded stained glass windows fool you into thinking this is going to be a decent boozer. This is a dimly lit rundown weekend pub with a musty smell and sticky tables. The interior is split-level with a dartboard against the front wall and a central DJ booth. The televisions throughout were airing muted Corrie while some background music played. The bar counter supports two unused hand pumps alongside standard keg and Birra Moretti. The service was inoffensive, but I’ll not be returning.

I keep stumbling across these Craft Union pubs and hadn't intended visiting this one but the Floodgate hadn't opened. Craft Union couldn't be a more deceitful name for these pubs which are basically Sports Bars and have as much connection with Craft beers as the Costa coffee chain. This is no exception with TVs everywhere, fairly loud music and an obtrusive pool table. It's roughly an L shaped room that's smaller inside than it looks from outside.
Only one of the two hand pumps was in use and this had St Austell Tribute (£2.40) which is cheap but wasn't in that great condition. I can't say that I would return here.

Now refurbished and a pub. The exterior of the rounded Victorian corner pub is a tidy grey and black now, with coloured window glass. The inside follows the same shape with a dart board area to the side. Old photos of Stafford on the walls were of interest. Plenty of sports TVs and music was a bit loud. Service was functional. Two real ales: Doom Bar and Tim Taylor Landlord - which was fine. Run of the mill place.

Feb 2011: This is a comment rather than review. This is a music venue, it doesn't open until 7, 8, or 9pm depending on the night and goes on until 1 - 2.30am depending on the day. It is closed Mondays. Has all kinds of band, karaoke and DJ nights, some of which are free, others charged for. Not sure if it should be on Pubs Galore, but thought i would leave the info anyhow, as i am unlikely to review it.

Awful place with only Doombore on draft (which I did not partake of!) Avoid.

Staff are unhelpful and rude. Toilets are dirty and disgusting. Thursday nights are okay with music, but upon visiting the following week, and it was the same people with a different band name! It's a grubby hole of a place and the people who I metthat night are drunken louts. Much classier places around Stafford to visit!
