Easily the best pub I found in Yeovil - after giving up at 6.

Back street boozer, with L shape room, running around the bar tucked in the corner. Butcombe Original the only ale - but in very good condition - so no complaints. Cash only, so from my pocket of change, I can determine it was £3.50 a pint.

Lots of signs with rules about "not messing with the ornaments" and "not putting logs on the fire". Very entertaining when someone ignores the rules.

It wasn't me.

Well described by BF, below, this traditional back-street boozer provides a good bolt-hole in the town centre. Darts, gaming machines and football on the TV provide entertainment, as does the skittle alley behind. The cold food – pork pies and sandwiches- was a nice touch and complemented the beer well, no fuss and well received. The two ales on were Butcombe's Bitter and Bass, both in reasonable condition. One hazard was the old tiles in the toilet, which were slippery when wet. The barman was friendly, as were the pub lurcher and the regulars. A good place to hide, worth a butcher's when passing and I'd include in a crawl.

A solid stone building with an imposing wooden door and steps up to the bar room, this is a proper town centre boozer. The interior has two section with a seating arrangement in the centre of the left side,a darts board in the window space and a flatscreen above a large fireplace with a coal affect gas fire.To the right is a wood panelled room with a smaller fireplace ,some traditional furniture and a flatscreen above an England flag. There is an old identure on the wall relating to the pub building, and the quarry tiled floor ,with some parquet ,completed the traditional feel.
There was a friendly welcome behind the bar,and the three handpumps were offering Butcombe Bitter,Bass (decent) while a cider clip had been reversed. No sign of food on my Wednesday afternoon visit and the pub was quiet, but I would pop in again if crawling around the town centre.

One of the few pubs in Yeovil with decent beer (Bass) and good, friendly service - but undoubtedly a 'blokes' pub. The grapevine has it that Carol is back behind the bar! Above average pub.
