Large pub at top of market place (mind the traffic getting over the road!). Slightly modernised but retaining a traditional pub feel, there is a U-shaped interior around a central bar. To the right is a raised area with some sofas, while round to the left is a games area, with a large collection of board games as well as darts and pool. Courtyard garden at rear. Four beer pumps had a couple of ales from West Berkshire and Rebellion, with two different ones coming soon. Sadly that sampled was not in best condition, but worth giving the benefit of the doubt for a second try. Food seemed to consist of Pieminister pies, which are known to be pricey but good. Very much a locals' pub.

A flying New Year visit found the Victoria rechristened the Queen Victoria, refurbished and under the guiding hand of the chap from the well-respected Allied Arms in Reading. There are four pumps but just two were on; I had a lovely pint of W&E Windsor Knot. The two staff behind the bar were indeed from those the Allied and were very friendly; it was shame I had to dash as I wanted to conquer the Henley Brewhouse over the road before my train home. The interior has a new darkish wood feel to it along with whitewashed walls. There’s a nice elevated area to the left rear with what looks like an old ‘Queen Victoria’ pub sign. Things are looking good.

*-NB since my visit I’ve learnt that the couple from the Allied have quit this place. Don’t know why but it’s a shame.

No real ale so didn't stop long, beyond noting it's a IKEA-style pine refit sports bar.
