Real Ale Ray left this review about Old Kings Head

A good rural community pub that had a nice relaxed atmosphere. The landlord made us welcome, whilst sitting at the bar on the lounge side and shared a keen interest in cask ale. The bar had a choice of six hand pulled ales on our visit, three Everards and two guest. I went for the Everards special, which was an American Hopped IPA, so a pint and a half came in at £3.40 and 10% off for Camra members. A local artist had a display of his oil paintings around the lounge and dining room walls. I especially liked the painting of Phipps brewery in Northampton, depicting the 1800s.

Bucking Fastard left this review about Old Kings Head

At one end of the village, this old building has been sympathetically refurbished and retains a two room layout as described below. The lounge is larger ,L shaped with a very welcoming wood burner on a chilly night.Handpumps are spread between the two bars, but it is clear in both rooms what is on.Expect Everards Beacon Hill and Tiger to be regulars, more Everards brews may make an appearance while the guests on my trip were Titanic Plum Porter (outstanding) and Purity Mad Goose (very good).Boozing in fine in both rooms and food doesn't detract from a pubby atmosphere. For me this is the best pub in Long Buckby.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about Old Kings Head

Rescued by Everards, this is now a thriving and Camra award-winning pub on the village outskirts. Retaining two bars, the one to the right having a rear extension reached by a couple of steps, and a small games room with a dartboard and table skittles on the other side. Semi-modern furniture and decor in all areas, but it retains a traditional feel and obviously attracts a mixed clientele of all ages. Six real ales available from the various handpumps on the two counters, with Beacon Hill, Tiger, Sunchaser and the seasonal Tighthead from the owning brewery plus Black Star from Phipps NBC and Brunswick (a decent Railway Porter, £3.50). Also has a cider on another pull.

Thuck Phat left this review about The Old Kings Head

The Old Kings Head has been through a few iterations, as a pubco owned pub, since Mr. Head's review below.
This year though has seen the biggest change with the pub having been bought by Everards and a very extensive, but sympathetic, refurbishment virtually completed.
As you walk into this traditional, and newly re-thatched, building, the bar area is to the left which has some colourful wallpaper, gas fired stove and grey stone floor. To the right is the carpeted and candled lounge and dining area which extends to the rear and the bar stretches across the two spaces. Furniture is new but an interesting mix of leather and colourful textile.
The pub is open all day and offers food all day except for Mondays. I didn't eat but the menu looks interesting and changes regularly.
As you'd expect with a new venture, the staff are friendly and enthusiastic and very willing to describe the refurbishment, menu and offer beer samples.
The beer is Everards with one guest, the range offered on my visit being Old Original, Tiger, Beacon and Pheasantry Pale Ale as a guest. My OO was in very good condition and I was told that it had only just come on having been delayed for a day as it wasn't ready. An admirable policy.
The pub has only been open for 3 weeks in it's new form and has been sold out for Sunday lunch for the last 2 weeks. This says something about both the Old Kings Head's offer and the paucity of choice in Long Buckby.
A very welcome addition to Long Buckby and the first time since I can remember that decent beer has been available in a pub in the village. I'll certainly return and look forward to eating here.
