E TA left this review about The Middlesex Arms

A large 1930s town pub currently operated by John Barras. At the front is an open terrace with chairs and tables, with a fine view of the high street traffic, guarded on this occasion by a gang of loud smokers. There is a small car park behind, and an untidy town garden. The main bar is L-shaped and occupies the majority of the ground floor, though there is also a function room. Entertainment is provided by a pool table, dart board and several TVs showing Sky Sports. There is also a huddle of gaming machines. The young bar staff were quite slow and not very engaging. The customers were almost exclusively cliquey locals who were also pretty ambivalent to our presence. The pub runs various party nights and discotheques. Three handpumps on the bar, but when we asked for Doombar the pump ran dry. The alternatives, GK IPA and Abbott, were predictably bland. A good local but not somewhere to seek out.
