A noisy town pub owned by Punch, well described below. Live football was being screened in every room, and the bar reeked from one person's vaping. Beers on were Pride, Doombar and Hobgoblin Gold, all over-chilled and in below-average condition. It serves a purpose as a good local, but it's not somewhere I'd visit again given the nearby competition.

Sitting in the pub, I think it has had some work done, as I can detect a faint wiff of paint. Anyway, it has a cream decor with wood front at the bar. 3 pumps, all working. Pride, Doombar & guest as Adnams Ghost Ship. Parking out the front with a raised area with tables. Ramp to the door for easy access. Open all day, every day. Didn't try the food though they have a good menu. Large fish tank to the right of the bar, if it wasn't for the bubbles at the top, it looks like the fish are floating in mid air. And before anyone asks, I am only on my first pint.

When I had a stint living in South Ruislip many moons ago, due to the poor Ruislip pub offerings at that time I used to venture a bit further afield towards Eastcote and visit The Black Horse.
So when driving past the other day it was good to find it still in rude health and stop to make acquaintance with it again.
This19th century Grade II listed pub is built on the site of an earlier 18th century pub which was struck by lightning in 1837. Internally it’s been made over and extended since the days when I used to visit. It’s still one central open plan bar when you enter with the bar in front of you, and then there is a separate small snug area with sofas off to the left and now to the right, a more restaurant dining area with extension out to the garden and large external exterior decking area at the back offering mainly Indian food from what I could see.
There are still three hand pumps on the bar and the beer was always good back in the day. On this visit they were dispensing Fuller's London Pride, Youngs Bitter and Hobgobblin. Unfortunately my pint of Youngs was fairly lifeless and not as it should have been which made me wonder if food is now more a focus for The Black Horse. Hopefully I was just unlucky and this was a blip but not sure when I’ll be back in the area to check this out.
The pub appears to have an over 21s policy and live music on a Friday evening was being advertised. And one thing that hasn’t changed is that there were several screens dotted about for the sport including one out in the garden contained in a weatherproof housing.
It was nice to see the old Black Horse functioning well and hopefully my not up to scratch pint is not a common occurrence..
