Good looking mid terrace pub saved by the local community and now thriving. The bar is to the front, with wings either side .To the left are two fireplaces and a good amount of seating, while to the right there is a wood burner, upright piano and board games .This side of the bar has a drinking shelf and bar stools. The beer garden can be reached from either side, with a wooden terrace to one side giving an ariel view of the grassed area.
At the bar there were handpumps for a real cider,Saltaire Triple Chocoholic,360 Degree Best,Oakham Oblivion and a very decent Five Points XPA.I thought that was a very good range over styles and strengths ,and I enjoyed the relaxed vibe inside,it's a proper boozer.Dont miss this one if in the area,I plan to spend a lot longer in here the next time.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Chesham Arms

Excellent little pub on a quiet back street on the Hackney side of Homerton. Very thankfully saved as a real community asset through a vigorous campaign by locals and friends from further afield. After some seven years since my previous visit, I was delighted to find it as vibrant and welcoming as before. No frills in the 'L'-shaped bar, side room or split-level patio beer garden, but who needs that if everything else is right? Four good real ales - Dark Star Hophead, Salopian Darwin's Origin, Oakham Hawse Buckler and Acorn Sun Storm (£3.90) - plus Cleve Orchard medium perry on the handpumps on this visit. Some decent offerings from the eight craft keg taps too. Just the sort of place you'd be happy to have as your 'local'.

There were four ales on in here - Darkstar Victorian Ruby Mild; Salopian Darwin's Original; Salopian Oracle; and Oakham Bishop's Farewell (£3.80 a pint). At the moment food seems to be limited to those pub staples of pork pies and sausage rolls (£3 a pop), but with the kitchen planned to be up and running in September. The barman did tell me however that while one can expect to see four ales on during a Friday (when I visited), there might be less on during the middle of the following week.

It's wonderful to see a pub like this rising from the ashes of the rapacious clutches of an avaricious developer. This has followed a gargantuan struggle by locals, including CAMRA members and supported by Hackney Council, where we saw the first legal challenge (by said developer) of Hackney council's award of Asset of Community Value status. Thankfully the courts upheld the Council's right to do so in this case. Unfortunately the pub didn't escape completely unscathed from the battle, with little of the original fittings remaining, having been largely gutted.

Inside it's a bit Spartan and uncomplicated now, but may still be a bit of a work in progress. Flooring is varnished original bare boards, and furnishings are mainly normal tables and chairs, with a few small round stools. There are brick built fireplaces at each end of the room, but little in the way of decor. One noteworth feature is the sunken garden at the back, sheltering in the lee of the railway arches.

A pub like this needs support if it's not to fall prey to the circling vultures once again. But that's not a massive chore with four decent ales to choose from. On the basis of one visit (so far) I would give it a thumbs up on ale quality - my pint of Bishop's Farewell hardly touched the sides on a hot July day.

Quite a surprising find; a good back street boozer in deepest darkest Hackney. A decent range of ale (three, I forget what but at least one that was out-of-the-ordinary) in good nick. The interior is cosy and a bit dated (red leather coverings and yellow wallpaper). Weirdly enjoyable, especially on a winters evening. There was a plasma screen that was switched off and a pool table. Sadly my review can't be much more detailed as I was already a bit merry by the time we visited…

This is a decent enough pub with friendly bar staff and harmless regulars. The Adnams was off, but Nethergate IPA and Friggin in the Riggin were available alongside a selection of standard draughts. The pub shows Sky Sports and there is a plasma screen in the main bar area and another in the pool table area to the left. There is a small decked balcony area out the back with stairs leading down to a good beer garden that backs onto the railway line.

I was starving when I walked in so I ordered a chicken roast dinner which took an hour to arrive. I think that the barman had forgotten to take the order upstairs as some people sat by me had their roasts within ten minutes of ordering and when I mentioned that I was still waiting my food arrived very promptly. I wasn't really bothered though as I was watching the football and the roast was well worth the £6.95 that I had to pay for it.

This is a good back street boozer and I would be very happy if this was my local.
