Close to St Pauls but far enough tucked away that the tourists never find it or The Cockpit round the corner I have utilised this one a few times since we were all let out after the second lock down, primarily because I have a colleague who works close by.
Internally a fairly plain single square room with a stone floor and no real artistic features of merit.
There is a central serving area around which there is plenty of space for vertical drinking as the only seating is around the edges as described below. Welcoming enough when its cold , as it was last week, but I prefer to visit in summer when the narrow pedestrian Burgon Street can be used as additional external seating for the pub.
The three pumps have always been fully utilised for my post pandemic visits and although one of these is usually Doombar I’ve found TT Landlord, St Austell Proper Job, Woodforde Wherry and Wainright rotated around the other two on my visits.

A back street corner pub with a central bar (footrail and hooks) but no sign of the original multi-roomed layout. It was quite busy with an after work crowd, and the changing of TV channels to pick up the Chelsea game indicated that it might well stay that way for some time. There are three hand pumps with Sharps Doom Bar, Wainwright and Woodforde's Wherry available. The Wherry was in very good condition, as indeed it should be at approaching £5 a pint.

A first in here (as far as I can remember) and if it was rundown, it's clearly had a makeover as it was pleasantly maintained, including decent lavs.
There's a central bar with peripheral pot shelf and attractive bar back. The floor appears to be clad with lacquered rough stone along with some black and white mosaic tiling, including to the attractive rear fireplace.
The interior is indeed geared towards vertical drinking with some high stools to the windows with beer shelves and a little conventional bench seating to the rear. The walls are clad with brewgalia advertising prints, which look attractive. Music was muted.
The three young barmaids were friendly enough though a bit inefficient. Ales: one unused pump, thereafter Sharp's Doom Bar and Bombardier Gold which was fine.
With a mixed crown, this is more a traditional boozer which is a rarity in these parts and I'd certainly come again but only if in the area. A wider choice and more imaginative ales would raise the score at least one extra point, though the pub is rammed early evening so best visit after the 9.00 pm watershed.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Rising Sun

Pretty basic for a City pub, with little in the way of furniture and very sparse decor around the 'U'-shaped bar area. Some basic food from something called B.O.B.'s & Co was available on my last visit, but that seems to have gone now (and the atmosphere is hardly conducive to eating anyway). Three handpumps on the counter, offering Rising Sun. Black Sheep, Doom Bar and Wherry (£4.50) on my latest visit.

I thought this was quite a good, basic boozer, with a decent crop of customers and a warmer atmosphere than you get in most places round here. As at yesterday lunchtime, the outside of the pub was in the middle of a repaint and the upstairs restaurant was closed for refurbishment, The main, single room with its small horseshoe bar was very much open however, with three handpulls serving Woodforde’s Wherry (a good pint at £3.60) and Young’s Ordinary, and the third with a reversed Ringwood Fortyniner clip on it. Two screens used for Sky Sports were muted and rather pointlessly displaying Bargain Hunt whilst I was there, and free wi-fi was also advertised. I cringed for a moment as the barman put a pretty ropey rendition of ‘Silent Night’ on the sound system at considerable volume, but from others’ reactions figured he was jovially experimenting with the beginning of December. There is nothing remarkable about this pub but I reckon it’s a decent place to go for a pint or two.

The Rising Sun is a basic U-shaped bar that I felt had a very rundown feel and I’m sure that it has seen much better days. To the left of the bar is a coffee making area with kettle etc and around to the right is an open fire. There is a plasma screen each side of the bar which compliment the projector screen when showing Sky Sports. The usual draught suspects can be found on the bar along with San Miguel and the three hand pumps were drawing Ordinary, Pride and Spitfire. The Guinness was well served by a friendly enough barman, but I had to begrudgingly hand over £2 for a half.

There is a Thai restaurant, that also does take-away, upstairs and it is open on weekdays from midday until 15:00 and 17:30 until 22:30.

I felt like I had been a little ripped off as I left because I thought the surroundings didn’t warrant the prices. I cannot see a return visit as there are better and much cheaper pubs in the area.

Unremarkable pub, which looks better on the outside than it is inside. The interior is pretty dull; it looks like it may have been a lot better a few years back but has had it's guts ripped out since. Three mainstream ales - Spitfire, Pride and Youngs - my Sheps was pretty good. I doubt I’d make an effort to seek the place out again though.
