Dating from 1778, this pub was rebuilt in 1899, the current name the result of a sensitive refurbishment from March 2023.
The pub is – or was – famous for its incredible six-tiered floral display, which hopefully will return. The interior isn’t that big, me not being able to recall it as I’ve not set foot in here for a good 23 years. Aside from what may be some residual etched glass, the style now is modern dark boarding, smoky grey paint, some new dark wood panelling, cream ceiling, picture lights illuminating random prints, then textured clear spherical lanterns over a bar of modern wooden design; one minor item of note, is the fireplace with its polychromatic floral tiled surround. Thereafter, furniture is modern traditional, with some dark banquettes, punctuated with white cable knit scatter cushions (see photo). Customers were moderate in number, all seemingly youngish professional types.
A half Camden Hells from a limited keg selection, costing £3.10, an almost charitable act given the area, then a half of Landlord coming in at a pricey £2.80 and good.
This is quite a good makeover compared to some of the acts of vandalism witnessed and is a far better bet than the nearby Greene King or Albany.

A good and reliable Central London pub which has one L-shaped room downstairs and a function room/dining area upstairs. Beers still as previous review.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Masons Arms

Very attractive-looking corner pub with what would be fine façades anyway enhanced by extravagant floral displays. The two original rooms have been opened out to leave a 'L'-shaped with traditional decor but a surprising lack of furniture. Four handpumps on the counter, offering Greene King IPA, Doom Bar, Purity Mad Goose and the 'specially brewed' Masons Arms Gold (£4.50). Nothing special, but worth a visit every now and then.

Traditional corner pub with an exterior strikingly adorned with flora. U shaped inside, obviously knocked through at some stage but there's a good amount of character in the dark wood varnished bar and gantry, ceiling moulds, frosted and etched glass mirrors, copper topped tables and curtained windows. Function room available upstairs. Selection of papers and two mute TVs showing Sky Sports News. Sensibly priced Thai food offered. Four ales on; a house beer of unknown provenance, Doom Bar, GK IPA and (thankfully) Hop Back World Hop Medley which whilst a little hazy was quite drinkable though £4.10pp. A more adventurous ale line-up would make this a proper little destination pub.

A good solid London pub serving an ever changing selection of mostly mainstream beers, including Doombar, Tribute and GKIPA. They do however have the odd micro brewery ale from around the country. This pub is open more often than some of the other pubs in the area who seem to make thier money from the office workers during the week. The pub used to stand out for the enormous yellow canopy that would shelter people from both the sun and the rain, but a campeign by local residents had it removed, much to the disgust of the local drinkers and smokers. The pub is owned by a Thai lady and the food reflects this, although I have never eaten there. Well worth putting on the map, an oasis in a generally beer free part of the city.

Still going strong, still worth a visit.

Very pleasant small one bar corner pub sitting in a turning between Great Portland Street and Portland Place.
Welcoming from the outside as it is usually bedecked with flower troughs and hanging baskets which makes it stand out from the surrounding office buildings. Three real ale hand pumps which on our visit included Deuchars IPA , and Fullers London Pride. The third was off but think it had been OSH.
Lot of dark wood and ornate glass in the interior and two flat screen teles with the sound down.
Very nice pint of Deuchars and if you can get a place on one of the five outside wooden benches, this is a very decent spot for an alfresco pint.

They had Deuchars IPA and London Pride (at £3.00 a pint) on. The Pride tasted like it usually does. The food menu advertised mainly Thai dishes, but there were apparently a few more traditional offerings available. There's a lot of dark wood around, giving it something of an antique feel, but I don't know how much of it was original, or the result of a Nicholson's style makeover. The Lincrusta style ceiling might be the real thing, and the door with inlaid glasswork leading upstairs looks like original Victorian artistry. Anyway, it's a pretty decent pub, and the fresh flowers all over the place is an unusual and rather nice touch. There are a couple of large TV screens on the walls that were showing different sports channels on the Saturday afternoon when I was in there, but thankfully with the sound muted. The ale choice is nothing to write home about, but it's nonetheless a pretty good pub, and well worth dropping in for a pint if you are in the area.
