Komakino . left this review about The Chequers

A former farmhouse on the main drag through this village with an internal sprawl as mentioned by the legendary Mr Winfield below as well as a vast car park which ill-fits the actual size of the pub. Entrance via the side of the building from the car park itself entering into a smallish bar area, with bar on a diagonal on the centre left offering just Marston's Pedigree on one of the three handpumps (£3.65 a pint and average to good). I didn't explore the other rooms as a World Cup game distracted me, but there's plenty of Olde Worlde beams, bits of flagstone and carpet plus the requisite Xmas dex. A cursory tick if anything, but at least the Pedigree was drinkable.

Alan Winfield left this review about The Chequers Country Inne

The Chequers Country Inne was the only pub open in Ullesthorpe on our visit here.
This pub is set sideways onto the main street, once inside this is a very big pub with lots of different rooms,i had a drink in the main bar, this was a large room with a beamed ceiling, the room seemed a bit short on tables and chairs making the room seem a bit bare, there was a dining type room to the right which was up a few steps and a small snug to the left, there was another room to the front of the pub.
The pub is a Marstons tied house and there were three real ales on the bar,i had a drink of Ringwood Old Scrumper which was quite a nice drink, the other beers were Pedigree and Jennings Cumberland.
There was some decent music playing and a few people dining, but the pub was quite empty given the size of it.
This is a nice looking pub that is nice enough inside but it seemed a bit dowdy in my opinion.
