Solid pub close to the station, as described below. The grey painted beams made this scribe nostalgic for the days of steam. On my hurried visit between trains on an April Sunday afternoon, I enjoyed a pint of Ossett Butterley, the Bowland Mosaic having gone off as I ordered.Busy, with groups of chaps watching the racing on the numerous screens.Good pub.

Near railway station. large early opening pub, large open plan room with central bar and drystone fireplace. The beams are painted grey which has a weird way of making them look more like concrete! Sports TV., 6 real ales of good quality

I have to say for a nearby station pub, this one was better than I had anticipated. The interior was traditional and carpeted throughout. There was also lots of pictures and bric a brac around the walls to give the pub a homely sort of feel to it. Regarding the ceiling beams, it was quite odd to see them painted in a very light grey compared to the traditional black, but it did add more of a brighter appearance for such a low ceiling throughout the pub.
The customers on our visit all looked very respectable, so the usual station pub clientele must have gone to drink elsewhere. Seven handpumps on our visit, with good service from a well staffed bar. I also noticed that their range of cobs were flying off the shelf. Beer wise we went for the Mad Crafty Brewer Nipa, which was in excellent condition.

one tough customer below in my opinion. it's certainly far better than the Station Hotel and Beer House round the corner and also better than most in Preston. it's pleasant, friendly, comfortable and cheap with a good range of beer. beer garden looks out at a car park and a garage, life doesn't get any better.

This pub immediately opposite Preston Station is in the 2017 GBG. As mentioned below it has been knocked right through to make an open plan room surrounding an almost island bar with darts and pool at the rear. It's an old building with beams on the ceiling and these have been painted light grey which looked ridiculous. There was a football match showing with the sound off that nobody seemed to be watching and for a while there was a female group at the bar who could out-cackle the witches in Shakespeare's Scottish Play all day long.
There were only four beers on from the two sets of hand pumps, Robinsons Dizzy Blonde, Lytham Summer Ale and Wells / Marstons Directors and Bombardier. I found this disappointing for a GBG listed pub but went for the Lytham beer (£2.90) followed by a second after a deluge of rain started outside.
Overall I was disappointed with this one with the TV screens and average beer choice. I would be prepared to give it another go.

Decent enough pub with a fair selection of ales. One largish room with the bar to the centre.

A nice, what looks like recently refurbished, pub at the top of Preston Station entrance. Open plan with distinct areas set around the central bar to sit. A decent selection of real ales is available. Better than the Station Hotel over the road.

Will Larter left this review about The Old Vic

A casual glance at this pub, with its green canopies over windows and door, might convince you that it's an Irish themed pub, but nothing could be further from the truth. This is a bit of a real ale palace, with seven hand pumps on the impressive brass-railed bar in the centre of a large room that has been created by knocking down as many walls as they could get away with. The ceiling is propped up by pillars of various ages and construction, and there are very old beams painted in an odd shade of reddish brown.

Local breweries (Moorhouses, Bank Top and Prospect) are represented on the bar to the exclusion of (almost) all others, the exception being Ossett, from Wakefield. The beer range is as good an excuse as any to make the quick dash from the station if you're between trains; in fact, probably a good enough excuse to break your journey here.
