Myself and my husband are the new owners of The Kings Head. We took over as of July 2014 and are striving to turn the pub around! The pub has undergone a huge over-haul, including the very large beer garden. We can now boast a great children's play area, an outside plasma TV - showing all of the latest sporting fixtures on SKY and BT sports, fine locally sourced Ales' and fantastic tasting lagers! We will have live entertainment every Friday evening from the New Year 2015 - anything from Disco's, Karaoke to live singing. In the summers we will be holding BBQ's with activities such as a Bouncy castle for the children. We are striving to be a pub at the heart of the community - family friendly and welcoming. We are hoping to start doing food from the New Year 2015 also. We do hope you pay us a visit and check out what we have managed to do already in a short space of time - please watch this space as there will be plenty more to come!

Told not to call they dont like strangers no idea why i was told that everyone was ok had a couple of pints before i called my Taxi for the station back To Newbury had two good pints of Wickwar Brewing Bob 4% will call back if in the area again

Seemingly the only pub in Thatcham the other Saturday in which one could actually have a conversation without being drowned out by music, so it got our custom. We were surprised to see a non-mainstream ale (Wickwar BOB) and astonished to find it in top condition. There's now a bar billiards table in the rear room as well. Clientèle seemed a little more mature than two years back and darts was being played in the right hand bar. We sat in the funny little rear alcove with the highlights of the day's Premier League footy being shown quietly on a screen above our heads. Things are looking up...still needs a thorough deep clean and paint job, mind. Could be a winner thereafter... 6/10

Has a bit of a reputation but seemed alright on my visit. This is a traditional two-roomed pub with banquette seating that was pretty busy with robust conversation amongst the locals. Had a token ale on (Pride) which tasted fine. The interior could do with a bit of TLC. If you like traditional local pubs then you might want to put your head round the door. 5/10
