Real Ale Ray left this review about The Robert Peel (JD Wetherspoon)

The pub was extremely busy on our Friday lunchtime visit (Fishy Friday) mostly the older and retired crowd looking for a bargain. Looking at Aqualung's review, Bridgehouse and Phoenix seem to be regulars in here, plus they seemed to be the best choice on our visit. So we went for the Brigdehouse Blonde. We didn't stay long as we went for a decent lunch in the pub next door, the Two Tubs.

a rough and ready Spoons this morning with a number of ‘interesting’ elderly characters. Not for the faint hearted or easily offended but will be popular with JDW purists. sadly the beer pricing system was awful with the guests costing nearly double the Ruddles/DoomBar dross.

This is an old school shop conversion JDW consisting of a large square room with fairly typical fixtures and fittings.
The bar has two sets of six hand pumps which had the JDW Trio Of Doom plus three ciders (two available soon) on one and the other had one available soon, Brightside Bobby Dazzler (a house beer, re-badged B-Side?), Bridgehouse Pale Rider, Phoenix Sticky Wicket, Naylor's Dusk and an International beer from Caledonian. I went for the Sticky Wicket (£2.25) which was going down a treat until a bloke came in wearing a bright red kilt, a skimpy vest and a Smurf cap.
Despite Kilt Man I thought this one was OK.

Busy town centre pub. only place to get my favourite beer, Bobby Dazzler, Brewed locally by Brightside Brewery. Typical Wetherspoons pub, if you like them then it's O.K

The smaller of the 2 Wetherspoons in the town. The front overlooks a statue of Bobby Peel.

Called in again after the beer festival. A couple of decent guests on the bar and the service was fairly quick and friendly. My pint of Acorn was in good nick as well. I think the staff in the Art Picture House need to be trained in here before being let loose on an unsuspecting public.

This place used to be a real mess, but over the last couple of years it has improved a lot. Several well kept guest ales on the bar, fairly efficient staff who know what they're doing. It's almost like being in a proper pub. No interesting features at all in this square box, but the beer makes it worth calling in again now. Keep it going guys.

Large Wetherspoons pub with usual fare available. Pleased to find a couple of guest beers in good condition, Wentworth Vanilla Stout and Blackhole Asteroid. It has made the 2011 Good Beer Guide.
