Fairly ordinary community pub, 3 pumps with Greene King and Marstons beers in average condition. A few screens. Some nice tile work survives in the bar marked Vault, an etched glass sign also claims "Outdoor Dept" .

Not the best pub interior wise in Horwich but nice enough atmosphere wise. Split into 3 areas with an area either side of the island bar plus a rear area. Basic decor. The area to the right is a thin room and this is where you will find 4 handpulls. Old Speckled Hen, Wainwright and Holts Two Hoots were you ales of choice. Decent enough for a drink.

Another good ale house in this part of Horwich, the Bowling Green is an attractive two bar pub offering distinctly different drinking areas. The larger left hand side of the pub is a well kept, carpeted lounge with padded banquettes down the left hand wall and the servery directly opposite. The stand out features are an attractive tiled fireplace and some rather misguided floral wallpaper which jars a little against the pub's traditional layout. A large screen just beyond the end of the bar was showing the afternoon's early Premier League fixture between Liverpool and Arsenal, with one young Liverpool fan unable to contain his excitement as his team romped to a 4-0 lead in the first 20 minutes. The room extends into a darker, rear area with painted stonework and more of that horrible wallpaper on display. Seating here seemed to be almost exclusively high tables and stools and consequently the area remained empty throughout my visit. The right side of the pub is a thin public bar, accessed through some etched glass 'Vault' doors. The room has some lovely green tiling on the walls, a few small photos and a huge gold shield or trophy on display, as well as a smaller TV showing the same football match. An open window allows you a view of the rear games room which had a pool table.
There were four ales on the bar - Holden's Golden Glow (£2.70), St Austell Trelawny, Box Steam Tunnel Vision and Marstons Pedigree, with a fifth pump unclipped. I opted for the Golden Glow, not one of my favourites, but kept in good condition and served by a friendly barman. The pub proudly displays Cask Marque and CAMRA awards and the bar staff were wearing shirts marking the pub's former CAMRA Pub of the Season award.
This seemed like a friendly local's pub that will suit the traditionalist and more casual pub goer alike. The interesting vault bar and the well kept ale were definite plus points for me and I would recommend including this on a crawl around Horwich.

Been shut apparently not paid the leccy bill. Open again with a lick of paint, but completely forgot to sort the toilets out which everyone complains about (bloody disgusting) you can't wash you hands, there are is no hand dryer, so what are the staff using?.
