A small and cosy interior wrapped around a central bar.Very Quiet on a Thursday lunchtime with just one elderly local and the Landlord to keep me company, both were friendly and engaging.Apparently live music in the garden is a big thing here in the summer months. As decribed before me, entry from the rear carpark up a flight up steps. Six handpumps are spread around the curved bar, on the day the beers were Arkells Tradition, Tring Ridgeway and Colley's Dog, Palmers 200 and a Cider that I failed to list. The selection was a little on the Brown side of the beer spectrum for me but a decent selection all the same.Despite once working in Henley a fair bit I passed this pub many times without calling in, I would indeed call in again but rarely travel in this direction nowadays.

This now a former Fuller's pub that was purchased by the tenants in June 2017. It has been greatly improved, with lots of character and offbeat objects d’art (kinda!). Excellent range of local ales in splendid condition. The veggie and vegan food continues to impress. This is well-worth a trip out of Reading to sample. Well done to the owners!

I think new owners took over just after my last visit and the place has been improving over the last year or two. Usually three Fullers beers on in decent nick and very good veggie and vegan food. Apparently the pub will be going free-of-tie in the near future too.

Fuller’s pub with three of their beers on this Sunday afternoon just gone. The Pride is over £3.30, which is pretty extortionate for a Fuller’s outlet. My beer was average. What struck me was the level of chaos at 2:30 on a Sunday afternoon – no half glasses (a dirty one was manually washed in the sink for me) and then a big kerfuffle getting change from a £5 note. The pub is on the A4155 road to Henley (the front of the pub is literally inches from the tarmac) and a lot of people zoom past without being able to stop. I approached from the south from Sonning, which is a slightly more pleasant route. The pub is atop a sharp hill, so the back of the building has a dozen or so stairs to get out to the rear, where the lean-to (with tables looking out over the valley) and rear garden are accessible. The interior is small, with a cosy drinking area and a restaurant level up a couple of stairs. I didn’t feel it was much to write home about. Rated 5
