Sadly the place has closed and been turned into private housing. A real shame, as it was one of the area's better pubs with a bit of genuine character.

July 2011
Has now been taken over by a new landlord (Tom, who is always good for a bit of banter) and there has been a massive refurbishment to a high standard - modern, but in a comfy, traditional way with wood panelling, prints and new carpets. Four ales on from the Marstons list plus a cider (Thatchers Somerset) - Tom has a good reputation for his beer and prices are all under £3p/p. Food is available, standard unfussy pub grub (though oddly no Sunday lunch - missing out on easy custom there!). Spot the four puffins that move around the pub each day. Looks like this could be a good destination. 2 minutes from Midgham station, which isn't far from Reading. Rated 8

Nice pub on the A44 which always has three ales apparently including a perennial mild, ordered off the Marstons list. Architecturally interesting (see pics) with a rare and pleasing Art Deco theme. Good value Sunday lunch is offered. Darts and sports TV are also available, whilst a sun-trap conservatory and beer garden complete the picture. Enjoyable and worth a stop - a notch above what most of nearby Thatcham has to offer. Rated 8

Regretably this pub has now closed. It will be made into houses.

This nice pub may soon be no more. Marstons intend selling it to a pizza company. The pub may close at the end of August.
