E TA left this review about The Stag Inn

A village pub whose core dates from the 18th Century, with an original cellar from that period, reached by a fenced-off stone staircase in the middle of the bar. The building has been extended at various times, including a room at the side that was once a smoking room, but is now a slightly surreal anomalous dining room, and more recently a restaurant room at the rear built by the current generation of the family that owns the pub. The central bar is L-shaped and has a dartboard, a piano and a slightly uneven floor due to flood damage. At the open side is a paved terrace, mainly used by smokers, and a large steep car park. There were a couple of regulars in, who were quite helpful, while the landlord was friendly, chatty and knowledgeable, though he looked like he’d recently lost a fight with a cheese grater. Ales on were Landlord and Butcombe Original, plus Inche’s Cider on draught. Brixton IPA was the sole craft ale on, and there was a bank of megas, including Guinness. There was an Illy coffee machine and water for dogs. Food is from local sources and is freshly cooked, and it’s reasonably priced, although the venison was a little deer. Definitely worth a visit.
