Took the stroll across the ring road away from the shopping centre to look this one up again and was hugely disappointed to find it does not do ales any more. Shame, this is a nice small corner pub that retains a pleasant snug bar and now has the benefit of a decent outside space as described below. Fortunately the pub dead opposite still retains its three hand pumps if it is an ale you are after.

Now open, although I have to say it's a particularly inviting pub in my opinion. Both handpumps have been removed but you may find a bottle of something in the fridge. The pub across the road is better for drinks if you are not looking for food. There is a pleasant hard-standing garden area at the back that was put in during lockdowns.

This pub was closed just before Christmas 2018 and has been boarded up. I won't mark it as closed until I have some more definite news about its future.

The Estcourt Arms is a decent, two bar corner locals pub not far from Watford train station which is not to be confused with the Estcourt Tavern at the other end of Estcourt road nearer the town centre. It used to be referred to as Lynch’s after the long serving landlord and landlady of some 31 years who finally retired in May of this year.
It’s one of only two Watford pubs in the 2010 GBG (the other being the One Crown on the high street) I haven’t been in for a few years but popped in again last weekend. Two beers on during my visit, and the Tribute was OK , but not up to the standard I seem to remember from previously.
Hopefully that was just a blip, because this is a solid back street local and worthy of its GBG entry on the experience of my previous visits.
