Slightly out of town, this pub (built in the 1950s) is the sole one in this neck of the woods, with the demise of nearby Bedford Arms, John Barleycorn and Silver Moon. A McMullen's charge, this has had some money thrown at it and looks good externally, although inside it's a bit of a mishmash with some distressed wooden tables, leather booth seats and indoor kids' play area (Wacky Warehouse anyone?). There are some cosier parts and the narrow patio out front is good on a clement evening (if you ignore the traffic), however, the staff were pleasant and although the ale offering was limited to AK and IPA (a third pump out of action) over two separate banks of pumps, my AK was in good shape and this isn't the token eye-raising "out-of-towner" you get in some places.

The Angels has lost its Reply,so is now called The Angels.
The pub is a bit of a walk North and away from the middle of Hitchin.
Once inside there is a large L shaped room with the facing on entry, the floor is bare boarded and there are a few different areas in the room.
There is comfy bench seating and chairs for seating.
The pub is a McMullens tied house so it was well worth the walk, there were three real ales on the bar,i had a drink of McMullens AK,which went down very well, there was also McMullens IPA and a house beer Angels Ale.
Food was being served and background music was playing.
The pub was very busy on my Saturday afternoon visit.
I thought this was a decent pub to have a drink in.

Large out of town pub that seems to cater for very young children and on my visit was more like a nursery with children running around out of control.Only good thing about it was the McMullens beer.
