On the busy Stow road on the outskirts of Bourton-on-the-Water, this is a former West Country Ales house and still has the old 'Best in the West' ceramic plaque by the entrance. You enter from the car park into a sunken bar area which is semi horseshoe-shaped with bare flooring and exposed stone on the walls to the right and behind with one wall covered in Art Nouveau-style flowered wallpaper and some half-height green wood panelling and light green rendered walls on either side of the entrance. A cosy fireplace takes up most of the left-hand wall with a generous dining area located a couple of steps up and through an open doorway to the right of the fireplace and was half-full on a Sunday lunchtime. The solitary ale was Prescott Season's Best Autumn which was decent, and a half-pint and a packet of Pipers crisps came in at £2.60. Some non-obtrusive muzak played in the background, and the impression was one of a cosy, country boozer.
