Will Larter left this review about The Chequers
This is a basic back street local just outside the town centre, with a couple of hand pumps. It's a one room pub, quite smartly done out, but it was absolutely empty when I walked in at about 10.15 on a Tuesday night on my way to the station after a game at Kenilworth Road. The person minding the bar was friendly and welcoming, but I got the impression he wasn't really expecting any customers.
There was Greene King IPA on one hand pump, the other said Deuchars but I don't think it was in use. Beer was only £1.99 a pint, which is about right for GK IPA. (I haven't given a rating because I was only there for 10 minutes on the quietest night of the week, so it is difficult to get an impression of what it's like when there's a crowd in.)
